About the Role

This role reports to the VP of Software Engineering and plays a leading role in our web application development team, deploying software for our roasters. This role interfaces with system engineers building firmware to mechanical engineers cracking the code on the thermodynamics of zero emissions.

Hybrid

The role requires on-site presence in Berkeley 2-3 times per week.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed team of engineers in developing and deploying the company's flagship user-facing application.
• Collaborate with our product design team to deliver the user friendly and joyous customer experience - you bring Figmas to life and speak in terms of design systems.
• Work closely with our cloud architect and dev-ops engineers to ensure our code can be smoothly promoted across environments and securely deployed across IoT devices.
• Work closely with our quality assurance team to include testability well before coding begins.
• Multiply the productivity of team members by complementing strengths & weaknesses while keeping them unblocked.
• Solve problems elegantly - efficiently and with respect for best practice.
• Raise the technical bar.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with zero-to-shipped experience across the full product lifecycle
• 5+ years of total industry experience in software engineering roles
• 3+ years of Un*x development experience; full understanding of core concepts such as inodes, permissions, and processes
• 2+ years of distributed system design experience; hands-on experience with serverless frameworks, container orchestration, queuing/messaging systems, etc.
• A proven track record leading web application teams using modern frameworks to deliver clean architectures and rapid cycle times in production
• Extensive experience with Typescript; Knowledge of multiple programming languages and how to choose among them
• CAP Theorem
• Strong software engineering and debugging skills across all system layers, from packet routing and disk partitioning to query planning and load balancing
• Strong understanding internet protocols such as OAuth, REST, and HTTP; perfectly capable of building and consuming APIs
• Fluent in unit testing, secure coding, agile and Git
• Docker
• The ability to build trusting relationships with team members to create a positive working environment.
• An infectious reverence for testable code and the process that creates it
• Not required but preferred: experience merging code into a significant open source project
