Full Stack Software Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join an international team of developers on the SUSE Manager product team. SUSE Manager is an open-source solution for managing multiple Linux distributions, anywhere and at any scale, used by hundreds of organizations and users around the world.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will ship code for SUSE Manager and Uyuni (it is an upstream project).

We expect you to do:

• Be a great person to work with: promote teamwork and value mentoring (giving and receiving).
• Drive the future of our code base, working with upstream project communities and influencing design and implementation decisions.
• Work with users to identify problems, turn them into good bug reports, track progress and provide actual solutions and feedback back to users.
• Be productive while at the same time keeping a focus on maintaining high quality standards.

Required Skills

We are looking for passionate engineers who are motivated to make an impact for their team and for our customers.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Full Stack Software Engineer:

• Solid software engineering skills regarding algorithms, programming paradigms and distributed systems.
• Very good knowledge of Java, its ecosystem (build tools, libraries, debugging techniques) and best practices.
• Familiarity and experience with front-end technologies and frameworks, ideally React and TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with databases and schema design, ideally with PostgreSQL.
• Good understanding of the Linux operating system, differences between distributions and how to manage them.
• Giving and receiving code reviews with the ability to knowledgeably discuss technical alternatives in complex systems.
• Previous participation in open-source communities, please show us your past contributions.
• Verbal and written proficiency in English language.

Challenge

We might be conducting a coding exercise with you during an interview in order to verify technical skills. This may not be necessary if there is sufficient publicly available evidence of your technical skills in the form of open source contributions. Please feel encouraged to start contributing to our repositories, in particular Uyuni or salt-netapi-client , there is a list of suitable god first issues available for your inspiration. Your contributions would then be discussed as part of the interview process.
