Job Description
A busy family with children is seeking an experienced, creative chef who is passionate about healthy, clean eating to oversee all culinary needs in a private home. The role involves planning, preparing, and serving balanced meals that cater to different dietary requirements while keeping mealtimes exciting for both adults and kids. Flexibility is required for occasional weekend events or gatherings at the home, as the family enjoys hosting events. In addition to menu planning and cooking, the chef will be responsible for managing pantry, refrigerator and freezer inventory and ensuring the household is well‑stocked with groceries and fresh ingredients.
Compensation: Competitive and based on experience and qualifications. Pay is negotiable depending on candidate's experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan weekly menus that prioritize clean eating, fresh ingredients, and varied cuisines while respecting individual dietary requirements (e.g., gluten‑free, low‑sugar, dairy‑free, or other specifications).
• Prepare and cook meals for the family — lunch, and dinner — ensuring kid‑friendly options alongside sophisticated dishes for adults.
• Work closely with family members to understand their preferences and nutritional goals; adapt recipes accordingly.
• Explore and test new dishes and cooking techniques to keep meals creative and interesting.
• Manage grocery shopping: source quality produce, meat, fish, poultry and specialty ingredients; maintain relationships with local vendors or markets where appropriate.
• Stock and organize the pantry, refrigerator and freezer, ensuring adequate supplies of ingredients, staples, and prepared items; keep inventory lists up to date and rotate items to prevent spoilage.
• Organize and maintain a clean, efficient kitchen environment, adhering to food‑safety standards and controls.
• Plan, cook, and serve for occasional social events or parties hosted at the residence, including later‑night events as needed.
• Coordinate with household staff (if applicable) to align meal times with family schedules and to facilitate smooth household operations.
• Keep accurate records of meal plans, dietary notes, and inventory; manage food budget in alignment with the family’s expectations.
Qualifications
• Professional culinary training or equivalent years of experience in private homes, upscale restaurants, or catering.
• Prior experience working as a private chef for a family or household is highly preferred.
• Comfortable and creative in developing new recipes and exploring global cuisines while maintaining nutritional balance.
• Exceptional time‑management skills to plan and execute multiple meals per day without compromising quality.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to listen to feedback and adapt menus accordingly.
• Reliable, trustworthy, and discreet; able to pass a background check and references.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to manage grocery shopping and errands as needed.
