Role The Selling team at Whatnot is responsible for building the end-to-end experience of listings, empowering sellers to merchandise their inventory in our various sales channels and formats. They shape the technical foundation of the commerce journey, from seller tools, merchandising systems, sales formats, and checkout experience. Seller Merchandising focuses on essential components that enhance Whatnot’s customer experience. They are committed to crafting a fun and engaging journey for buyers and sellers by providing the necessary tools for frictionless shopping on Whatnot—features like Checkout, Listing Page, Seller Shop, Buy It Now, and Flash Sales. Looking ahead, the team is poised to innovate and expand, ensuring an ever-evolving and dynamic marketplace for all users. In this frontend-leaning fullstack role, you will... • Own full page web migrations to Next.js • Improve reliability on core marketplace surfaces • Build live experiences to make purchasing more entertaining on Whatnot • Scale our checkout experience Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York City hub. As our next Fullstack Engineer on Seller Merchandising, you should have 5+ years of generalist software development experience in high growth startups, plus: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience • Knowledge of multiple programming languages (we primarily use Python, Elixir, JavaScript—knowledge of these in particular not required) • Web development experience with React, using GraphQL for API development, and modern frontend applications (exposure to Next.js framework is not required but preferred) • Excellent product instincts—you first think about users rather than the best technical solution • You can mentor others, and prioritize building inclusive, supportive teams • Project owner—you’ve strong ownership instincts and can own projects from inception to production and beyond • You are known for shipping products and features lightning-fast • You’re an excellent problem solver and don’t need to be told exactly what to do • Ability to pick up on new technologies very quickly • Proven track record of delivering features Benefits • Flexible Time off Policy and Company-wide Holidays (including a spring and winter break) • Health Insurance options including Medical, Dental, Vision • Work From Home Support • Home office setup allowance • Monthly allowance for cell phone and internet • Care benefits • Monthly allowance for wellness • Annual allowance towards Childcare • Lifetime benefit for family planning, such as adoption or fertility expenses • Retirement; 401k offering for Traditional and Roth accounts in the US (employer match up to 4% of base salary) and Pension plans internationally • Monthly allowance to dogfood the app • All Whatnauts are expected to develop a deep understanding of our product.
