The Secular Student Alliance empowers secular students to proudly express their identity, builds welcoming communities, promotes secular values, and sets a course for lifelong activism. Founded in 2000, the Secular Student Alliance has approximately 200 chapters in colleges and universities across the country, a dozen chapters in high schools, and several international affiliates. SSA advocates for the separation of church and state, critical thinking, and inclusive communities while supporting nonreligious student leaders to create a more equitable and rational world.
Position Summary:
The Secular Student Alliance is seeking a dynamic and detail-orientedFund Development and Communications Managerto oversee our donor relations and communications efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is integral to ensuring the growth and visibility of SSA. The ideal candidate will have a passion for nonprofit work, strong organizational skills, and a talent for storytelling that amplifies the voices of secular students and their impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Fund Development:
• Manage the organization's CRM database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor records.
• Track and process donations, recurring gifts, bequests, and other contributions.
• Prepare and deliver timely donor acknowledgments, recognition efforts, and receipts.
• Generate regular donation and fundraising reports for the Executive Director and board.
• Support annual and special campaign efforts, including crafting compelling appeals and coordinating mailings.
Communications Management:
• Lead the organization’s social media strategy and daily activity across platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Bluesky, and TikTok, to engage diverse audiences.
• Write and distribute press releases, ensuring consistent messaging and visibility for SSA’s programs and events.
• Draft op-eds on behalf of the organization and support chapters in crafting and publishing their own opinion pieces.
• Collaborate with team members to develop content that highlights SSA’s impact, programs, and the importance of secular advocacy.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in fundraising, communications, or related roles within a nonprofit setting.
• Proficiency in CRM or donor database management (e.g., Salesforce, Neon, or similar platforms).
• Strong writing and editing skills, with experience crafting compelling stories, press releases, and social media content.
• Familiarity with social media trends and strategies, including video content creation for platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
• Ability to work well in an energetic, engaged secular organization.
• Passion for the mission of the Secular Student Alliance and an understanding of the secular movement.

Pay: $74,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
