GameSkinny: Video Game Guide Writers

GameSkinny is looking for freelance writers based anywhere in the world to join our international news room! This is a fully remote contract position.

GameSkinny's video game news and information is written by gamers, curated by a team of seasoned editors and governed by a belief that games and gaming are a positive experience for all. Interested candidates should have in-depth knowledge of gaming and must be comfortable writing news about various gaming related topics. Applicants should be self-starters who are eager to learn and respond well to constructive criticism. Any candidate who mentions having in-depth knowledge of one of the below beats will stand out.

Games/beats we're looking to cover:

• Minecraft
• Bethesda games
• FPS and live service games (Fortnite, Destiny 2, etc.)
• RPGs / CRPGs
• Survival Games
• Souls-like games
• Generalists who have a passion for a wide genre of games (most important!)

Responsibilities:

• Help cover news and guides around game releases
• Work with editors to develop pitches
• Meet deadlines for publishing stories
• Follow trending topics through Google Trends and Twitter
• Write a minimum of 20 stories per month
• Understanding online game communities and the games themselves

Preferred qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience writing in the news industry
• Knowledge of SEO practices
• Weekend availability
• Fluent in writing, reading, and speaking English

Compensation ranges from $11-$60 USD per article depending on type and length. Rates may vary for international candidates based on location.
