The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Global Lead, US Grants Compliance to serve as the go-to resource for all matters related to US government grants compliance. It works closely with program teams around the world, equipping them to comply with US donor requirements and IJM policies.
This role supports key aspects of grant acquisition and implementation, maintaining a strong focus on adherence to timelines, budgets, and compliance requirements. IJM approaches compliance holistically – reinforcing the correlation between programmatic, financial, and donor requirements, and providing hands-on support across the matrixed organization. The position is for a self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with strong grants experience who can produce quality deliverables within prescribed deadlines.
This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the Global Officer, Grants Legal Compliance and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation

Standardize systems, processes, tools, and communications for grants management to establish consistent and effective practices that reflect IJM policies and donor requirements.

Provide expert advice for subaward selection, vetting, review, and monitoring; review and negotiation of awards and modifications; regulatory compliance guidance and best practices; award start-up and closeout; and donor reporting and communication.

Proactively identify compliance risks within the US portfolio, advising program staff and the Global Director, Grant Partnerships, on necessary actions.

Support the Global Lead, Grants Capacity Building, with organizational capacity development initiatives, including regular training, resource development, and staff mentorship.

Project manage Global Grants initiatives related to compliance, grant portfolio performance, organizational grants readiness, and internal policy and procedure development.
Networking & Partnership

Equip teams within the US grant portfolio to administer their awards in compliance with the terms and conditions, supporting implementing staff to achieve grant objectives on time and on budget.

Ensure implementing teams and support functions stay fully informed of changing or new relevant donor compliance requirements and IJM procedures.

Collaborate with teams during the proposal development phase to ensure compliance with all US government requirements, including eligibility criteria, budget restrictions, reporting obligations, and compliance documentation.

Collaboratively work across functions toward compliance solutions that are responsive to internal and external requirements, liaising with Programs, Legal, Finance, Procurement, and Governance teams.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management

Conduct periodic reviews and audits of project activities, financial records, and documentation to identify potential compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.

Maintain and, where necessary, establish systems that ensure key grant related documentation is archived, organized, and accessible by relevant IJM staff.
General Tasks

Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the Global Director, Grant Partnerships.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (such as business administration, public administration, or finance).

Minimum of 5 years of international grants and/or program and/or project management experience.
-
3-5 years of experience in grants management, award administration, and compliance.
-
3-5 years of experience working with US government donors and strong knowledge of the Uniform Guidance.
-
Demonstrated proficiency in donor communication and reporting.
-
Demonstrated ability to work across teams and functions to manage complex projects on-budget and on-time.

Familiarity with grant award agreements and key risks and requirements to flag during internal review.

International living or work experience preferred.

Knowledge of US government regulations required; understanding of non-government donors preferred.
