Job Description

New Dawn Charter Schools is the umbrella organization for two NYC transfer schools: New Dawn Charter High School in Brooklyn, and New Dawn Charter School II in Queens. New Dawn serves some of the most at-risk high school students in NYC, those who have failed at other schools, dropped out of school, become involved in the criminal justice system, recently moved to the country, disabilities, and other problems students encounter. All our students are over-aged and under-credited and will graduate behind their cohort groups. Having recently been awarded a number of Federal and State grants and being involved in four other grants as part of consortiums, we are now in need of a Grants Manager to oversee the financial and compliance aspects of these grants. Further, we need someone who can identify future grants we are eligible to apply for and assist in writing these grants. The person who accepts this position will be an active member of the Finance Department, working with both schools to ensure appropriate procurement and expenditures. Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. · 6+ years in nonprofit accounting and 3+ years in federal grant management. · Demonstrated expertise in Excel, Quicken, and Microsoft Office. · Prior work in education is helpful but not mandated. · Has proven experience with subrecipient monitoring. · Proven ability to communicate with a wide variety of departments and individuals. · Proven ability to liaison with Federal and State grant oversight monitors. · Proven analytic, research, and data management skills. Responsibilities: Accounting Functions: · Understand all aspects of the Uniform Guidance audit, including grant accounting, Single audit, reconciliation, and reporting. · Collaborate with Senior Management and Program staff to design and adjust budgets for proposals and track budget performance. · Working with the Accounting team, ensure all grants information is ready and available for the Audit. · Understand how to bill grants for drawdowns. Grant Compliance: · Develop and review comprehensive reports for both internal stakeholders and external funders, ensuring that all financial details related to grants are accurately represented such as drafting progress reports. · Create, update, and refine policies, procedures, and systems in line with government regulations and the organization’s goals. · Maintain organized, accessible electronic and physical files for each grant-funded project, supporting ongoing compliance and reporting needs. · Conduct regular compliance reviews for all grant programs to identify areas of improvement and ensure adherence to regulations. · Maintaining and building relationships with funders on a local, state, and national level. · Maintaining a master calendar of all grants, reporting and compliance dates. Subaward Monitoring: · Design and execute monitoring procedures to confirm that all subrecipients comply with federal and other applicable regulations. · Conduct regular site visits and audits, addressing issues and ensuring adherence to subrecipient agreement terms. · Provide clear, practical guidance on interpreting and implementing regulations, as well as subrecipient award conditions. Procurement: · Oversee the organization’s purchasing policy, ensuring alignment with Federal laws and OMB Uniform Guidance. · Serve as a key advisor for procurement needs across departments, offering insights and strategic recommendations. · Conduct market research, assess vendor options, and lead contractor and subrecipient selection processes to support organizational goals. · Develop an appropriate inventory tracking system aligning with the various funding sources.
