Who We Are
Verily is a subsidiary of Alphabet that is using a data-driven approach to change the way people manage their health and the way healthcare is delivered. Launched from Google X in 2015, our purpose is to bring the promise of precision health to everyone, every day. We are focused on generating and activating data from a variety of sources, including clinical, social, behavioral and the real world, to arrive at the best solutions for a person based on a comprehensive view of the evidence. Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes.
Description
The Debug Project at Verily is looking to ramp up our mosquito production systems, release, and monitoring including the support of field and partner sites. To drive this initiative, Debug is hiring an Electro-Mechanical Technician with experience in automated systems, precision robotics, and manufacturing.
As an Electro-Mechanical Technician, you will be part of a small, energetic team of mosquito biologists, software engineers, and automation experts working to develop better ways to reduce the impact of mosquito-borne diseases. Responsible for building and maintaining quality systems for all processes and products, you will be central to the assembly, deployment, and maintenance of Debug technology across multiple global release programs, ensuring effective, efficient, and consistent quality products at all sites.
The Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for the build-out and maintenance of large-scale automated mass rearing facilities, as well as all of the industrial automation equipment that will be operating inside the facility. The scope of work will range from early prototype to final production builds.
- Assemble, diagnose, and troubleshoot automated robotic systems with complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and fluidic components.
- Perform robot maintenance, working independently to solve problems when mechanical and electrical failures happen, and proactively mitigate future risk.
- Follow diagnostic procedures and advise R&D team on improvements.Â
- Assist project management for manufacturing space renovations. Ability to understand technical requirements for power, air and water distribution.
- Minimum 15% travel required for repairing, retrofitting, or deploying systems globally.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years experience working in relevant electro-mechanical fields (electrician, construction, field service, automotive technology, HVAC) or equivalent degree.
- Jack of all trades: Experience in assembly, maintenance, inventory, operating equipment, and common power tools. Experience with building, wiring, and troubleshooting complex electronic control systems.
- Computer and controller operation skills, able to operate an automation dashboard. Communicate robot failures clearly to a non-technical audience and assess hardware downtime.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high and low power electrical systems including power, safety, cable routing, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with shipment and logistics of large scale robotic components.
- Experience with computer aided design (CAD) programs, preferably Solidworks, and ability to generate documentation (schematics, BOMS, assembly instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides).
- Great communication skills and the ability to work well on a fast-paced interdisciplinary team.
