About the Role
We are looking for an experienced consumer credit and underwriting leader to help Caribou achieve its next phase of growth. You and your team will be responsible for leading the development of Caribou’s underwriting and decisioning model for our auto refinance business. We have a highly-skilled, five-person credit team in place that will report into this role, and are seeking to invest in and further expand this function over time.
This role will:
- Oversee the building of a predictive underwriting scoring model for prime and near prime auto loans
- Engage and work closely with credit bureaus and third party data providers
- Work closely with Credit and Data Analytics teams to establish scoring attributes
- Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to implement the program
- Conduct rigorous testing of the model
- Partner with data science team to validate model
- Participate in the drafting of credit policy and procedures
- Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure scoring model is compliant with regulatory requirements
- Document the entire scoring development process
About You
You have 15+ years experience in leading and developing consumer scoring and underwriting programs for major banks, finance companies or other consumer lending startups. You are well recognized in this field and have built and managed teams and are able to work at a high growth startup. You:
- Have extensive experience developing consumer auto (or, at a minimum, general consumer) loan decisioning models
- Have experience in developing and testing model attributes
- Have developed credit policies
- Experience in validating models
- Familiar with the regulatory and legal requirements for building decisioning models
- Familiar with lending products, with a focus on auto lending
- Experience with working with Prime and Near Prime data
- Worked with credit bureaus or other sources to build models
- Organized, process and detail driven
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills
- Team player and open to training and building expertise
- Able to work with company wide teams

- Competitive base salary: $270K - $290K

- This role can be based out of Caribou offices in Washington, DC or Denver, CO. Alternatively, this role may work remotely from a state where Caribou operates*. However, this role will require attendance at occasional in-person team meetings. As a result, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to be eligible for this position.
