Head of Documentation (India)

About the Role:

The Documentation Team is responsible for writing, publishing, and optimizing the documentation that makes Apache Pinot™ and related technologies easy to understand, adopt, and use by developers worldwide. We do that by showing developers how to get started with Pinot and StarTree technologies and building an exhaustive library of recipes and easily consumable reference material explaining them in detail. Since Documentation is a part of the Developer Relations team at StarTree, your mission will be tightly aligned with the broader DevRel goal of making it easy and fun to adopt Pinot, and earning the love of the developers who make the choice to try it out.

As a Lead, you will provide vision for StarTree's documentation effort (including Pinot and StarTree-specific things), translate team goals into specific projects for your team, help your team clear obstacles, and help them tend actively to their own professional growth. The role requires that you have extensive experience as a technical writer, experience as a manager, and the willingness to work as a player/coach over the medium term.

Job Responsibilities

• Own the vision for documentation as an integrated part of the StarTree Developer Relations team
  
• Recruit, train, and retain an excellent team of world-class writers
  
• Support all StarTree product docs and contribute actively to Apache Pinot docs
  
• Turn coarse-grained team goals into specific projects and plans for your team
  
• Track performance of online docs and docs backlog against individual and team goals
  
• Represent documentation as a function cross-functionally with:
  
• The rest of the DevRel team
  
• Product Management, ensuring documentation updates are aligned with product releases
  
• Engineering, developing healthy cross-functional collaborations with subject matter experts
  
• Meet weekly with each team member for mentoring, coaching, and continuous performance communication
  
• Provide a professional environment characterized by growth and safety
  

Qualifications

• Experience as a technical writer
  
• Experience as a manager or team lead
  
• Deep empathy for developers learning a new and potentially difficult technology
  
• A compelling vision for what will make the best software documentation we have ever seen
