Job Description

Our mission at Atomic Machines is to bring autonomous bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale to the world, and we are well on our way. We are developing an entirely new class of manufacturing foundry for micro- and nano-scale machines, and we are using that foundry to create products the world has heretofore been unable to build. Our first device has exceptionally strong and large-scale product-market fit: it is both iconic of what our platform can do and a driver of very significant enterprise scale.

Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team running hard to make our platform, devices and vision a reality. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its earliest days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.

Our offices are located in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

About this role:

We are looking for a Head of Quality and Reliability to lead our efforts in establishing world-class processes for a new class of manufacturing. The AMP platform is the first of its kind and therefore has unique abilities and requirements when it comes to quality and reliability. We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of quality and reliability who also understands the promise of truly deterministic digital manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be able to combine their knowledge and understanding with the capabilities of AMP to help usher in a new paradigm of precision and repeatability. This will be a highly visible role within the company and successful execution will be critical to the success of the AMP vision.

What You'll Do:

  • Establish and maintain a quality management system for all Atomic Machines. The QMS will apply to both our devices and to the development of the AMP platform.
  • Work closely with the AMP team to develop metrology solutions in line with the AMP manufacturing philosophy of deterministic digital manufacturing.
  • Establish and monitor quality metrics for AMP and the devices it will produce.
  • Work closely with the Devices team to establish PQPs for all new products.
  • Track recurring issues, perform root cause analysis, and ensure that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead Atomic Machines through all relevant third-party certifications such as UL and ISO.
  • Plan and deliver PPAP documentation as required by our customers.
  • Establish processes for incoming and outgoing inspection and test.
  • Oversee and facilitate a process for managing non-conforming materials.
  • Lead efforts to improve overall equipment effectiveness of the AMP platform to meet internal targets.
  • Create and execute reliability test plans for AMP hardware.
  • Lead the factory and site acceptance testing for both new and repeat equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Operations teams to establish performance metrics and ensure they are monitored regularly and actions are taken to improve
  • Perform regular audits of the AMP manufacturing facilities to ensure consistent operations and conformance to quality standards.
  • Lead resource planning efforts for the Quality and Reliability teams.
  • Manage the quality and reliability teams in the course of their work by setting goals and KPIs to track performance.

What You'll Need:

  • 10+ years of experience in quality engineering and management of electromechanical systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Engineering or Physics. Master’s preferred.
  • Experience building and managing teams of at least 5. Champion of fair, inclusive hiring practices.
  • Deep understanding of the principles of quality management systems.
  • Deep understanding of reliability best practices, modeling, and physics of failure.
  • Experience qualifying capital equipment for both production and testing.
