TITLE: HVAC Apprenticeship
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Apprentices will perform skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and systems; perform duties in collaboration with other trades areas as required in order to maintain District facilities.
Program Details:
Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training, including on-the-job training hours and related training instruction hours. During participation in the program, apprentices will be employed and paid as an HVAC. apprentice. After successful completion of the program, apprentices will transition into an HVAC Technician Role.
QUALIFICATIONS:
β’ Education of a High School Diploma or equivalent required
β’ State of Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
β’ Valid Arizona Driverβs License

Tempe Elementary Schools will support the apprentice while on job:
β’ Attending evening classes every week.
β’ Completing all required apprenticeship training assignment
β’ Graduate the HVAC Apprenticeship Program
β’ Earn State of Arizona Certificate of Completion
β’ Earn Department of Labor Certificate of Completion
β’ Transition fully into an HVAC Technician role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
β’ Design, install, and maintain air conditioning units, ventilation equipment, heating equipment, walkin/reach-in refrigerators and freezers, and coolers.
β’ Operate computerized energy management systems.
β’ Perform planned maintenance, regular servicing and repairs to refrigeration equipment of all types, sizes and temperature ranges.
β’ Install and replace all types of pumps, refrigeration and other equipment according to prints, specifications, diagrams or other instructions.
β’ Perform temperature and airflow adjustments on the energy management compute system.
β’ Maintain records of repairs or equipment requiring future service.
β’ Utilize a variety of power equipment such as volt/amp meter, combustible gas detector, oxygen/acetylene torch set, and hand tools in the performance of assigned tasks.
β’ Operate District vehicle to travel to job sites.
β’ Perform other duties as assigned.
