Job Description

The Position
Do you dream about creating a more sustainable future? At Uplight, we are motivating energy users and providers to accelerate the clean energy ecosystem. Working with over 90 of the world's leading electric and gas utilities, Uplight provides an end-to-end customer energy experience. Uplight delivers personalized experiences that customers have now come to expect - improving satisfaction, increasing revenue, reducing the cost to serve, and contributing to carbon reduction goals. We are B Corp certified, enabling us to put our values into action by not only making decisions for the benefit of our shareholders, but also for our clients, environment, employees, and community.
Uplight is looking for an Implementation Engineer to join our team to help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and for the planet.
What you get to do:
As an Implementation Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting Uplight's utility clients and partners in the deployment of our enterprise customer engagement products. Working in collaboration with account management, project management, product management, operations, and engineering teams, in a dynamic environment, you will proactively navigate and execute the technical aspects of the implementation of Uplight's SaaS solutions to meet a client's needs.
As an Implementation Engineer, your role will involve tackling projects that play a pivotal role in ensuring our clients' success. Our team of Implementation Engineers embodies adaptable leadership, approaching novel challenges with enthusiasm while driving the continuous advancement of our technology and process.
Our Implementation team's background includes technical project management and software implementation. We hire proven stars in these fields, but we also make bets on promising up-and-comers that have demonstrated success in other fields or academia.
Skills and experience are necessary, but we hire on value alignment first, so if you feel you would be a good fit with us, still consider applying.
What you will contribute:
  • Execute and document highly technical tasks while partnering with our product and engineering teams to continue to improve our internal tooling and user interfaces
  • Generate new documentation and training; refine existing documentation to accommodate updates in alignment with continuously improved software implementation processes
  • Collaborate with utility clients, partners, and internal teams to address technical aspects of implementation and deployment, ensuring a successful, timely, and high-quality launch
  • Partner with our design, product, and engineering teams to enhance internal tooling and user interfaces by offering insights into requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and assisting in the prioritization of outcomes
  • Guide clients through the understanding of technical requisites and configuration for solutions such as SSO, data specification compliance, data integration, and others. Collaborate with clients to facilitate setup and user acceptance testing
  • Provide comprehensive insight into widget and API implementation prerequisites for clients; engage in communication with clients to support setup and testing procedures
  • Initiate and play a prominent role in proactively exploring automation opportunities, process improvements, and potential solutions, while ensuring their successful integration and adoption

What you bring to Uplight:
  • Background in the following:
    • Python and shell scripting
    • AWS, GCP, or similar cloud services
    • GitHub, CircleCI (CI/CD), and JIRA
    • TestRAILS or other test management tools
    • SQL
  • Experience creating task-focused step-by-step walkthrough videos and documentation
  • Skilled in navigating databases and data, as well as writing and running SQL queries
  • Comfortable working with internal and external cross-functional groups; may include clients, engineering, and product management teams
  • Outstanding communication skills; adept in effectively conveying information to both technical and non-technical audiences through written and verbal means
  • Professional and credible demeanor when engaging with clients
  • Curiosity about and commitment to technology, streamlined processes, energy efficiency, and your personal growth potential

Bonus Points
  • An understanding of the utility industry
  • Working knowledge with web integration technologies, such as iframes, widgets, CSS, Single Sign-On, and REST API tooling such as Postman and cURL
  • JetBrains suite or other advanced IDE
  • JavaScript
  • Experience collaborating with offshore resources
