The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Intermediate Level Software Engineer-Java to join the Payments Modernization journey with an aim to bring enhanced efficiency and ability to process payments in real-time with end-to-end automation. This position plays a vital role towards building resilient application using emergent designs, clean code, and automated pipeline validations in an iterative agile development process. This role will work with multiple IT teams across the enterprise to enable the delivery of the solution in a complaint manner. Calling individuals that want to expand their horizon alongside energetic engineers and are able work hard to meet timelines and bring in the lively element along the way.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based out of San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX . Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Sets technology strategy, direction and provides architecturally compliant solutions for a business function and/or technical domain(s). Utilizes unique knowledge and experience to research, integrate, architect and influence innovative technology initiatives aligned to USAA's mission, brand pillars and strategic priorities.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions

• Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis

• Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques

• Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.

• Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.

• Follows the software development lifecycle.

• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

• Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).

• 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.

• 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.

• Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python

• Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.

• Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions

• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.

• Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

• 2 years of development experience utilizing Java

• 1+ years’ experience working with REST API development with Spring Boot

• Working experience in Kafka and AWS.

• Understanding on implementation of container-based APIs using various container technologies like Open Shift, Docker, or Kubernetes.

• Familiar with Gradle, Git, GitHub, GitLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure.

• 1+ years of Unix experience is nice to have

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $74,210- $141,830.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
