Job Description
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.
As an iOS engineer on the Active Trip team, you'll collaborate with User Research to design intuitive passenger experiences. We build all aspects of the Waymo vehicle interface, from boarding to exit, including screens, audio, controls, and cloud services. Our team tackles complex technical challenges, such as phone-to-vehicle communication, infotainment integration, and personalized preferences. If you're passionate about autonomous driving and want to contribute to a groundbreaking project, join our team!
In this hybrid role, you will report to an Engineering Manager.
You will:
- Build systems in Swift and SwiftUI to support various passenger experiences
- Work with APIs for both our first-party service (gRPC) and partner services
- Focus on pixel-perfect UI and collaboration with UX and product designers
- Work with experts in the field of autonomous vehicles
You have:
- B.S, or M.S. in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of experience building and shipping mobile apps from scratch using best practices
- Experience with SwiftUI in a production environment
- Passion and experience building user-facing products
- Collaborate with the wider Waymo team (product managers, designers, vehicle and robotics engineers)
We prefer:
- Build and release on the iOS App Store
- UIKit, CoreAnimation, and other iOS libraries
- C++
