Janitor

QUALIFICATIONS • Must be at least 18 years of age and should possess two years experience of janitorial experience within a business environment • Submit to a background check upon employment and every other year from the date of employment • Must be of good moral character with references • Must have a working knowledge of how to use janitorial products and equipment • Must be able to demonstrate the philosophy of The Salvation Army and work well with people • Understand that this position requires the ability to perform the following physical actions, but is not limited to: bending, stooping, stretching, lifting, climbing, the ability to get up and down off the floor, etc. RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform janitorial duties that are scheduled for daily, weekly, and monthly completion as defined by the Corps Officer, including, but not limited to, general cleaning, floors/carpets, sanitizing and dusting of surfaces, and the detailing of bathrooms and all surfaces in the bathrooms, including showers, etc. • Detailed cleaning when required, such as shampooing carpets, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning walls, moldings, doors, etc. • Assist the Corps Officer in maintaining a working inventory for janitorial supplies and advise on monthly orders. • Keep supplies stocked throughout classrooms and bathrooms on work days. • Keep janitorial closet, washroom, washer and dryer, and storage areas clean. • Periodically, perform preventative maintenance such as replacing air filters, light fixtures, switch plate covers, etc., as needed. • Assist with set-up and clean-up from meetings or special functions. • Maintains exterior clean-up of the property as needed, including some yard maintenance. • Ability to work with all Staff to coordinate cleaning schedules as approved and directed by the Corps Officer. • Any other duties assigned by Corps Officers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop, or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
