POSITION SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, performs general routine janitorial duties and assists with general maintenance tasks. Cleans and maintains shelter offices, bathrooms, meeting rooms and other public areas. Keeps exterior and interior courtyards/corridors clean and free of debris and obstructions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Receives direct supervision from the Operations Supervisor. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High School Education or equivalent
· Two (2) years’ experience performing janitorial work with similar responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of any specific statements of the task/duties does not exclude them from this classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this classification.
1. Sweeps, mops, washes and polishes floors using appropriate chemicals and detergents.
2. Cleans doors, walls, windows, and mirrors.
3. Cleans and vacuums carpets.
4. Empties trash cans; places trash bins for pick-up.
5. Clean garbage chutes and clean trash rooms and general trash areas.
6. Cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies.
7. Replace light bulbs, florescent tubes and diffusers.
8. Dusts furniture, equipment and other objects.
9. Washes, shampoos and steam clean carpets.
10. Turns off lights and locks and unlocks doors and windows.
11. Sets up a room or an area for special events.
12. Performs minor and/or routine maintenance on equipment used on the job.
13. Moves furniture, equipment and other objects.
14. Sweep sidewalks, parking lots; pick up and remove trash and debris from entrances, landscaping and perimeter of property.
15. Monitors exterior grounds for graffiti and remove immediately.
16. Cleans and maintains laundry rooms, clean wall vents and fans.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment, and tools.
· Knowledge of safety practices in custodian/janitorial/maintenance work.
· Knowledge of cleaning methods.
• Ability to safely lift and operate heavy pieces of equipment such as waxers, buffers and vacuum cleaners.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of cleaning products.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers and supervisors.
• Ability to follow safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to learn proper cleaning procedures and methods.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance.
· Must be able to drive an agency vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.

· Requires the ability to provide excellent customer services to clients, agency staff and the general public.
· Be courteous, exercise good judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
· Deal effective with clients from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY, TOOLS AND MATRIALS UTILIZATION
Requires the ability to operate maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and materials used in performing the essential functions.
PHYSICAL ABILITY
Tasks require exerting medium physical effort which involves lifting, bending, stooping, pivoting, carrying, pushing and /or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (26 to 35 pounds) to heavy (40 to 50 pounds). Able to walk 2500 feet without difficulty over varied ground and terrain; able to crawl underneath buildings and/or investigate ceiling crawl spaces.
