The Risk Decision Technology (RDT) team at American Express is responsible for building software products/capabilities required to manage credit and fraud risk strategies globally. The group handles consumer journeys for Authorizations, Underwriting, and Hardship products for Credit Cards, Loans and Digital Banking. The group operates in Scale Agile methodology (Safe) and partners closely with the Credit and Fraud Teams. Risk strategy, Technology, Servicing and Marketing groups at American Express.
Responsibilities of this job:
This is an excellent opportunity for a technical professional with knowledge of data-oriented capabilities and a track record of successful applications in the Financial Service Industry. As an Engineering Director, you will drive:
- The technology strategy and delivery for the Fraud Risk Engineering team that includes fraud authentication, fraud authorization, data inbound and outbound for fraud capabilities
- The creation of a migration strategy to move from TPF to distributed systems
- Leadership of the TPF engineering team
You and your team will:
- Evaluate enterprise offered solutions, conduct extensive proof of concepts and provide data-driven findings to explain functional and non-functional capabilities that address our availability, resiliency, latency, and consistency requirements.
- Participates in development of plans and strategies, practices, and standards related to data management processes, data products, security and programs
- Functions as leading member of an agile team and runs data assets as per standards, guidelines, and policies
- Lead design, development, evaluating, modifying, deployment and documentation of all data components
- Debug data components, identify fixes, and validate / remediate design and/or performance defects
- Improve table design to follow data placement procedures and re-use of existing databases as appropriate
- Ensure accurate data ingestion with zero loss
- Craft the different data compute patterns at the time of ingestion
- Experience in articulation of testing status, problem management, and multi-functional alignment expectations.
- Communicate and works with business and product teams to support changes and implementation
- Influence vendors to provide solutions and features to meet Amex needs
- Seek opportunities to implement innovative technologies and maintain strength of platform health and drive improvement
- Participate in coding (at least 50%) and/or hands on implementation and debugging
- Ability to mentor the engineers individually in day-to-day activities and long-term leadership path
- Assist team members in overcoming day-to-day problems
- Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software for use in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related environments
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience leading and delivering in matrixed organizations and interacting with teams across all lines of defense.
- 7+ years of experience in a hands-on engineering in data/distributed eco-system
- To be successful in this role you will need to be a subject-matter guide in Java, kafka, spark, Hadoop/Hive, TPF (Transaction Processing Facility),C/C++, MQ. Knowledge in GCP is a plus.
- Ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details.
- Experience with variety of non-functional and functional testing practices demonstrating extensive scale of data, business logic, and low latency distributed engineering on outstanding cloud solutions.
- Evolve roadmap and strategy that demonstrates a comprehensive view of the business including identifying possible future business opportunities.
- Comfortably deals with balancing evolving needs with limited resources in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to set a high bar for the team to achieve goals.
- A "driver" personality pushing towards planning/execution while balancing the needs for outstanding alignment among teams.
- Ability to share engineering domain expertise with architects and other specialists
- Ability to adapt solutions to meet the broader needs of the portfolio
- Develop and deliver impactful new technologies
- Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work
- Has knowledge of the range of tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)
- Able to participate in assigned team's software delivery methodology (Agile, Scrum, Agile XP, Kanban, etc.)
- Understands and has practical experience with infrastructure technologies and components like servers, jvms and networking concepts
- Application of industry practices, processes, and standards
- Identifies several ways to challenge existing norms that will continuously improve the product
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
