Job Description

At Gousto we are a data company that loves food with data science and analytics embedded across all of our tribes and central to our ability to deliver an amazing customer experience. We have a wide range of data science models in production, from menu planning, recommendations and retention to forecasting, network and factory optimisation plus simulation. Our Data Scientists build our cutting-edge tech, provide guidance and support on delivering current business priorities. They work closely with our technical leads and the head of data science to shape the data community, contributing to setting expected standards in all our data products. We are very excited to open up two new Optimisation focused roles to support our Supply Chain and Factory Operations teams.

Junior Data Scientist - Optimisation

Location: London (Hybrid) 

Our junior data scientists are all embedded in squads, which own multiple data products that have been in production use for several years. These teams currently comprise several Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Analysts and Product Managers, so while you will need to be comfortable working in relative autonomy on your own tasks, you will also receive the guidance of experienced colleagues. You will interact with a broad range of stakeholders to understand where the biggest challenges are in our operations to inform the team’s priorities.

More specifically, these roles will be part of the tribes that focus on either accurately supplying or packing the freshest ingredients, ensuring the satisfaction of our customers. You will build and improve optimisation products for our network allocation or fulfilment processes. These products play a critical role in our operations as they define the capacity of our fulfilment network as well as the configuration of our production lines.

The perfect candidate will bring expertise in optimisation models and will demonstrate enthusiasm for tackling production challenges. Above all, we value an innate drive for innovation.

What will keep you busy

• Developing and maintaining optimisation models for our supply chain or order fulfilment processes
• Reporting back to the wider team on the status of our models to keep them updated on progress and to escalate any blockers
• Understanding the needs of the stakeholders, and being able to come up with creative solutions to satisfy their requirements
• Helping to educate the wider team, including senior stakeholders on the value of optimisation
• Bring new ideas and perspectives to build the future of our capability

Who you are

• You have experience building optimisation models leveraging optimisation techniques such as linear programming or metaheuristics
• You have a practical approach to problem-solving, always striving for impact
• You have experience with a range of Data Science tools and statistical techniques (regressions, clustering, decision trees) and an understanding of their real-world advantages and drawbacks
• You are comfortable coding in Python and have experience with version control
• You distil complex problems into simple pieces and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• You thrive in a fast-paced, high growth, technology focussed organisation

Nice to haves

• You have an understanding of industrial and operations processes
• You are familiar with optimisation packages (OR-tools, Pulp or similar)
• You can run queries and are comfortable studying metrics & KPIs to measure real-world phenomena
• You have experience working with the full product life cycle (experimentation, training, testing, monitoring, and deployment)
• You have experience running scenarios to test and validate alternative hypotheses
• You are curious, with a strong desire to learn new techniques & technologies
