Position Overview
The Lead Carpenter is a highly skilled tradesperson responsible for performing and overseeing commercial carpentry work while leading a crew on job sites. This role combines hands-on craftsmanship with leadership, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate will be a reliable, all-around mechanic who is capable of working across multiple trades, managing small projects independently, and performing a wide range of construction tasks—including demolition and non-carpentry work—whenever needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform skilled commercial carpentry work, including layout, framing, doors, casework, and finish work.
• Act as an all-around commercial construction mechanic, completing tasks across multiple trades (drywall, minor electrical, flooring, hardware installation, light plumbing, etc.) as needed.
• Willingly perform demolition work and other non-carpentry tasks to keep projects on schedule.
• Lead and direct a team of carpenters and laborers on-site, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
• Manage small projects independently, including scheduling, ordering materials, coordinating with clients, and ensuring completion to specification.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings to plan and execute work.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to maintain workflow and resolve issues.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
• Maintain quality control by inspecting work and ensuring it meets project specifications.
• Track materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring efficient use and proper care.
• Communicate project status and needs to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
• Train and mentor crew members to improve skill levels and productivity.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5–7 years of commercial carpentry experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Proven ability to work across multiple construction disciplines.
• Comfortable performing demolition, general construction labor, and other non-carpentry tasks.
• Strong understanding of all phases of commercial construction and sequencing of trades.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
• Proficient in the safe use of power tools, hand tools, and other construction equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage small projects independently.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and work at heights or in varying weather conditions.
• Prolonged standing, bending, and kneeling as required for carpentry, demolition, and other construction tasks.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
