Lead, Technical Tax Accounting

As the Lead, Technical Tax Accounting, you will be a key contributor within our mission focused organization.  We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual to join our growing tax department.  This newly created position will be our primary point of contact for conducting research on all tax matters.  Reporting directly for the Head of Tax, the ideal candidate will be an expert in researching and communicating technical tax concepts in a plain and understandable manner.  Our Lead, Technical Tax Accounting will also work cross-functionally with colleagues around the globe to practically apply tax rules in line with the initiatives of our growing business. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform independent research and effectively manage external advisors in assessing direct and indirect tax positions for worldwide operations, including the development and maintenance of transfer pricing positions and documentation aligned with the Company’s operating model.
• Partner cross-functionally to understand business strategies and processes, communicating corporate tax impacts and collaborating with non-tax specialists and other stakeholders on solutions to achieve business initiatives.
• Communicate Amylyx’ approach and tax positions by leading discussions and preparing technical memorandums, whitepapers, etc.
• Monitor the changing US and global tax landscape, including timely analysis of proposed and enacted legislative and regulatory updates.
• Assist business development colleagues in understanding corporate tax implications of proposed transactions.
• Contribute to any ad hoc projects as they arise.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting or Finance.
• CPA or J.D. with 8+ years of experience with demonstrated progression of responsibilities.
• Recent experience in public accounting focused on commercial publicly traded life science companies.
• Excellent tax research skills, including a strong ability for problem-solving, proficiency in use of research tools (e.g., BNA, CCH, etc.) and expertise in developing and documenting conclusions and recommendations.
• Advanced ability to translate and communicate complex or difficult tax concepts to others in a plain and understandable manner.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at once and to meet targeted due dates with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and continually changing environment, with a willingness and aptitude for learning and flexibility.
• When necessary, adaptable to conducting business during non-standard hours to meet needs of a global business.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Corporate tax department experience.
• Experience in defending tax positions on examination
