Job Description
The Lead Welder will oversee welding operations in a fast-paced metal recycling environment, ensuring that all fabrication, repair, and maintenance work meets quality and safety standards. This role combines hands-on welding duties with leadership responsibilities, including guiding a team of welders, coordinating workflow, and maintaining a safe and efficient shop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate daily welding activities for the shop and yard.
• Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures, containers, machinery, and equipment used in recycling operations.
• Inspect incoming scrap and materials to determine necessary repairs or fabrication needs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
• Assign tasks, provide training, and mentor junior welders to develop skills and ensure quality workmanship.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on various metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Ensure all welding and fabrication meets company quality standards and project specifications.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on metal processing equipment, conveyor systems, and heavy machinery.
• Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
• Monitor inventory of welding supplies, tools, and equipment; submit requests for replenishment when needed.
• Collaborate with supervisors and mechanics to prioritize work orders and minimize downtime.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational welding certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of welding experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Proficient in MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques.
• Strong knowledge of metals, fabrication methods, and recycling industry equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Skilled in operating grinders, cutting torches, shears, and other fabrication tools.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Comfortable working in hot, cold, and noisy industrial environments.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $32.00 - $34.00 per hour
