Description
The Legal Professional 1 position involves a hybrid of paralegal, analytical and administrative skills including drafting legal documents such as organizational documents (articles of incorporation, bylaws, operating agreements), agreements, contracts, resolutions, written consents, and legal memoranda, performing legal and records research (identifying relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material), preparing miscellaneous legal forms and responding to general corporate and enterprise inquiries. The Paralegal 1 has an understanding of professional concepts/standards, regulations, strategies and operating standards with respect to assigned subject matter. Work is managed and often guided by precedent and/or documented procedures/regulations/professional standards with some interpretation.
Responsibilities
The Legal Professional 1 prepares, and files required documents with government entities, including Secretaries of State and state boards of pharmacy, on behalf of Humana and its healthcare services subsidiaries, and drafts documentation and maintains corporate records for those entities. Work often involves regular direct communication with various regulators and agencies in response to inquiries, requests for information and submission of documents. The Legal Professional 1 routinely collaborates with key Humana business segments to support the Company's strategic initiatives and to provide general corporate guidance. The Legal Professional 1 supports certain internal and external audit operations, equity compliance functions and ad hoc administrative functions for the Office of the Corporate Secretary. The Legal Professional 1 supports entity and regulatory approval matters in connection with the Company's merger and acquisition activity. The Legal Professional 1 may also work with in-house attorneys, other paralegals, and outside counsel on specialized projects requiring legal research and analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 1 year of corporate law, compliance department or law firm paralegal experience
- Effective interpersonal, teaming and communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (emphasis in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Professional and Lexis/Nexis
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Proven organizational skills, as well as flexibility, and ability to manage multiple or competing priorities within designated time frames and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Corporate law or compliance department or law firm paralegal experience preferably with experience in medical or Medicare/Medicaid insurance
- With supervision from the assigned attorney, reviewed and analyzed a broad range of agreements, amendments, non-disclosure agreements and related documents
Reporting Relationship
This role will report to the Law Department - Office of the Corporate Secretary

Vaccine Policy:

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates must meet the following criteria:
- At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested
- Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership
- Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
- Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
- Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information
