Based on the historic and serene grounds of our convent, this role is essential in caring for the spaces where our Sisters live, pray, and serve. This position is ideal for an experienced tradesperson—whether actively licensed or newly licensed—who desires to use their skills in service to others. The right candidate will bring strong expertise as aJourneyman Electrician or Journeyman Plumber, while also assisting with general facility upkeep including HVAC, carpentry, painting, and maintenance of older buildings. Pay Status: Non-Exempt – Subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), including overtime and minimum wage protections. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) • Performsjourneyman-level electrical or plumbingrepairs, installations, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance in accordance with code and safety standards (based on license). • Electrical (if licensed):replace/repair receptacles, switches, lighting components, ballasts; assist with circuits, controls, and panels as permitted by license. • Plumbing (if licensed):repair/replace faucets, valves, commodes, traps, piping, supply lines; diagnose and correct leaks, clogs, and pressure/flow issues. • Performs minor carpentry: repair drawer pulls, ceiling tiles, door hardware (hinges, closers, locks, stops), floor/cove base, chipped laminate. • Performs plastering/painting: patch holes, replace cracked tiles, paint to match. • Performs general maintenance: install/replace fixtures and accessories, hang pictures, repair curtain tracks; change filters; clean supply/exhaust diffusers. • Inspects and tests equipment per preventive maintenance schedules; documents work; corrects deficiencies. • Responds to work orders and urgent calls; participates in on-call/recall rotation as assigned. • Ensures all residents, visitors, and employees are treated with dignity, respect, and privacy. • Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values of the Congregation of Divine Providence. Job Specifications Qualifications • Required (one of the following): • ValidTexas Journeyman ElectricianLicense, or • ValidTexas Journeyman PlumberLicense. • CDP will also consider advanced apprentices within ~6–12 months of journeyman licensure; commitment to completing licensure required. • ValidTexas Driver’s Licensewith acceptable driving record. • Ability to work independently; select appropriate methods, materials, and tools; and clearly explain technical situations. • Ability to read and understand English; clear written and verbal communication. • Strong time management, attention to detail, and teamwork. • Follows organization policies and safety/health procedures; completes work to applicable codes and regulations. • Ability to interpret basic plans/prints and research technical materials, parts, and equipment. Education and Experience • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Completion oftrade school/apprenticeshipin electrical or plumbing required (or near-completion if advanced apprentice). • Minimumtwo (2) yearsin skilled maintenance, facilities, or trade service (journeyman-level experience preferred). Licensure/Certification • Texas Journeyman Electrician or Journeyman Plumber(required; near-licensed considered). • CurrentTexas Driver’s Licenserequired. Working Conditions • Work performed indoors and outdoors across multiple buildings. • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs. • Work around cleaning chemicals, odors, loud noise, wet areas, confined spaces, and dust. • Use of hand/power tools with potential exposure to cuts, bruises, and burns; use of PPE as required. • Ability to work independently; occasional out-of-town/overnight travel may occur. • Subject to 24-hour recallas emergency conditions warrant; participation in on-call rotation.
