Summary

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work overtime.
  • Occupancy of government quarters is required.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You must possess and maintain a current Water Treatment Operators Certificate, and you must be able to secure and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Health Services Grade 1 Water Treatment Operators Certificate. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  1. Ability to lead or supervise(SCREEN OUT)
  2. Possess and maintain an Arizona Water Treatment Operator Certificate - Grade 1 (SCREEN OUT)
  3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  4. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  5. Use of Measuring Instructions
  6. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
  7. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  8. Knowledge of materials

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: Incumbent works on various structures utilizing ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and in cramped places. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. Occasionally strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying hand tools and in the repair of powered equipment. Performs backcountry hiking in steep terrain for distances up to 8 to 10 miles/day while carrying a pack. Trail work involves full day travel and work carrying equipment up to 50 pounds and traveling 3-5 miles/day for several days per week.

Working Conditions: Incumbent works indoors/outdoors primarily during daylight hours, however may work nigh hours during inclement weather or for emergency response. Temperatures range from -10 degrees F to over 90 degrees F. Summer conditions could include dirt, dust, heat, high winds, noise, wet environments and potential hazards in the form of lightning, poisonous plants, insects and wild animals. Winter conditions include rain, snow, ice, and windblown whiteout/blizzard. Duties are performed at elevations ranging up to 6,000+ feet. May be required to travel overnight and work weekend shifts. Outside work may involve hiking, climbing, that may be performed in all kinds of weather, some of which will be performed under the most adverse conditions. Incumbent is subject to burns, strain, electrical shock, loud noises, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around equipment. Incumbent follow prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear and may be worn for or used for extended long periods of time.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
