Manager, Machine Learning

Role Purpose:

As a Machine Learning Manager, you will lead teams of talented Machine Learning Engineers, guiding them to excel in both impact and individual growth. As a servant leader, you ensure that your teams are thriving and continuously advancing in their technical and professional development. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, you will be part of the leadership group that sets the standard of excellence for machine learning at Jumio.

As an expert in machine learning and deep learning, you will guide your teams in designing robust machine learning systems for tasks such as retrieval, open-set classification with very large class numbers, information extraction, and data structuring.

You will foster a T-shaped engineering culture within your teams, encouraging them to not only specialize in machine learning but also to broaden their understanding of data engineering, software development, and testing practices. Example Responsibilities

• At least 2+ years of experience managing teams in a machine learning or related field
• Lead a newly established team of 6-8 interdisciplinary engineers
• Very hands-on approach covering a wide range of activities from system design to model fine-tuning and data pipelines 
• Interacting with engineering & product leaders
• Understanding both the existing platform and the existing SDLC and helping to onboard the rest of the team
• Be continuously up-to-date in recent developments in the VLM/LLM space and drive the tech stack
• Mentoring and coaching the rest of the team

Experience and Qualifications 

• Experience with or deep knowledge about the latest open-source VLMs/LLMs
• Solid cloud, preferably AWS experience
• Production experience with ML systems
• Deep Python or Java, solid system architecture skills

Great to have Experience and Qualifications 

• Experience in similar lead positions in cross-functional teams
• Experience in working in global organizations across several timezones
