DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and Product Validation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a multi-disciplined, technically savvy Engineering Manager, who will have direction over a team of 6 Validation Engineers. You will be responsible for the adherence to the DVP&R process deliverables, alignment of environmental and performance requirements to vehicle architectures, review test plans and approval of test reports. You will deliver timely program results, strive for process improvement while focusing on quality, reliability, and developing best in class vehicles.
TECHNICAL FOCUS
The Validation Engineering Team is vital in delivering the best-in-class transit buses through rigorously testing Components, Systems and Vehicles to internal and external requirements. These efforts focus primarily on:
- Development of requirements, test procedures and reports
- Vehicle preparation and instrumentation
- Support testing efforts in the laboratory or the field
- Collecting and analyzing data using serial data, eDAQ and direct measurements
- Ensuring all Regulatory and Emissions requirements are met
- In house and supplier software is developed and tested in a Bench environment prior to release
- Finite Element Analysis and simulation
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Define engineering standards for vehicle, systems, and component requirements along with the associated design verification (DV) and production validation (PV) plans
- Define engineering processes that manage various physical and virtual test procedures required to confirm compliance to requirements for new models that provide complete traceability between requirements, test results and test reports
- Manage teams that support software and hardware testing, ensure documentation of non-conformances and issues are regression tested as well as resolved on time to support production
- Work cross functionally with enterprise teams to align ADV plans for components, systems and vehicles that are comprehensive and support program timing
- Own and maintain the fidelity of a fleet of prototype and pre-production vehicles
- Establish various engineering standards to define vehicle performance attributes
- Design and configure test beds and/or simulations to develop and validate system capabilities prior to vehicle integration
- Coordinate and document requirements, design verification and validation as well as work with component/systems suppliers to support the overall program validation plan
- Test, evaluate, validate, and sign off for the overall vehicle before SOP
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BSME or BSEE required. Master’s degree in engineering discipline a plus
- 12+ years of progressive engineering and management experience
- Demonstrated technical and leadership responsibility in automotive, on/off highway or transportation equipment (HD experience a plus)
- Experience with ICE, electrified powertrains, collision avoidance, autonomous vehicle technology, root cause analysis, chassis/body structures, steering/suspension systems, air brake systems, vehicle dynamics, testing and validation
- Knowledge of FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, SAE HD vehicle standards, NFPA
- Analytical and solution-driven individual who researches data and able to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Developed systems requirements, validation, and verification strategies, as well as facilitating the successful completion compliance documentation
- Strong foundation in systems design and management, product design and development, engineering systems analysis for design and manufacturing
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented and possesses highly organized documentation practices
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
- Limited travel may be required
- Standard start time: 6:00AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $250,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
