Job Description

EnergyHub empowers utilities and their customers to create a clean, distributed energy future. Our customers are real utilities managing the real electrical grid supporting the normal lives of millions of real people. Our mission is to keep the grid running reliably while enabling more renewables and less reliance on fossil fuel.

The Market Development Specialist will be an integral part of the Market Development team, with the primary responsibility of managing and growing EnergyHub’s energy markets business. The Specialist will manage EnergyHub’s wholesale market portfolio, help utility clients meet their market objectives, and help EnergyHub’s Product team evolve the dispatch and reporting capabilities of our Mercury DERMS platform to enable participation in a growing landscape of DR and DER market services. They will stay on top of industry trends and make market strategy, pricing, program design and operational decisions – and implement those decisions along with the larger EnergyHub team and our device partners. The Market Development Specialist will participate in RTO/ISO and PSC working groups and lead engagement with external trade organizations to inform day-to-day operations, uncover new market opportunities and contribute to the overall direction of the Market Development team. This is a great chance to develop analytical, strategy and operational skills while interacting with a wide range of stakeholders in the industry.

This is a multi-faceted role where knowledge of energy markets, utility tariffs, and grid services is incredibly useful, and a strong background in data analysis (e.g., R, Python, Excel) is a plus. Besides a rock-solid work ethic and a strong team-oriented personality, we’re looking for a candidate that is creative, passionate, and has a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting landscape.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Managing the operation of EnergyHub’s wholesale market aggregation business
    • Handle key aspects of the daily operation of demand response participation in wholesale markets including revenue modeling, program launch, enrollment and resource registration, market bidding, dispatch and delivery of grid services, post-event reporting and executing creative ideas for program expansion
    • Evaluate new markets and help the Market Development team launch into new territories, including coordination with RTOs, QSEs, and device partners to design first-of-a-kind programs that deliver capacity, energy, and ancillary services to key markets
  • Identifying areas for improving and streamlining program operations
    • Lead the coordination, design and documentation of EnergyHub’s standard operating procedures related to grid services dispatch
    • Support the design of technical integrations with partner and market systems to automate the market enrollment/dispatch processes and set the Market Development team up for rapid growth
    • Initiate efforts to ensure that all load control events are executed flawlessly and that program load control goals are met
  • Stakeholder engagement
    • Participate in RTO/ISO working groups, trade organization committees and select agency proceedings, often by writing comments and collaborating on advocacy efforts with other companies, to create favorable rules for DR/DER participation
    • Identify, track, and summarize relevant market design and/or reform activities with the potential to enable new opportunities for Market Development, utility clients, and other internal teams

Qualifications

  • BA/BS. Coursework in policy, economics, statistics or math is a plus
  • At least 3 years of work experience
  • Excellent analytical skills. You love to dive into data and build new models and tools
  • Strong business acumen and data-driven decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Disciplined and organized approach to work
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced team environment
  • Self-starter that is highly driven to succeed and eager to learn
  • Enjoy a flexible and dynamic work environment
