Mechanical Design Engineer - Composites

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with Composites Material Development experience to join a talented team. You will be a part of a diverse team of engineers, analysts, and developers supporting spaceflight programs.

Primary Responsibilities.

In this role, you will directly support the development of composite and metallic structures, and support hardware, following industry best practices for human-rated space missions.

Candidate will be responsible for applying sound mechanical engineering & design principles in the development of composite, machined, structural, and sheet metal component parts.

Candidate will be responsible for Bill of Material development and component specification for mechanical assemblies as well as applying engineering design processes, such as design for manufacturing, drawing production, & PDM/PLM/configuration management, to the

The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills, be a strong team player, and be capable of establishing solid working relationships with peers and technical staff members within the program.

Basic Qualifications.

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 8-12 years of relevant experience or Master of Science with 6-10 years of relevant experience

• Must have experience with CAD software and 3D Modeling.

Must have experience in development of composite structural systems

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

• Must be a resident of the Huntsville / North Alabama area

• Must be eligible to obtain a secret clearance or higher

Preferred Qualifications.

• Experience supporting NASA and/or commercial space hardware development programs

• Human spaceflight hardware development experience

Experience using SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, or Creo

Experience with PDM/PLM systems

Pay Range:

Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
