Job SummaryU.S. Got People (USGP) is seeking a qualified and compassionate Medical Assistant to work in the Orthopedics department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. This is a vital role that supports the healthcare of active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. The Medical Assistant will perform both administrative and clinical duties under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Care and Preparation:
Greet and escort patients to examination rooms.
Measure and record patients' vital signs, height, and weight.
Take and document patient medical histories and current information in the electronic health record (EHR).
Prepare and set up the necessary equipment and instruments for examinations and procedures.
Clinical Assistance:
Assist providers with patient examinations and minor procedures, including casting, splinting, and dressing changes.
Under the direction of a provider, administer medications and injections.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing.
Provide patient education on post-operative care, rehabilitation exercises, and provider instructions.
Administrative Support:
Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
Answer phones, take and deliver messages, and assist with patient communication.
Maintain and retrieve patient medical records, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
Scan and upload documents into the electronic health record (EHR).
Manage clinic flow and work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure efficient operations.
Compliance and Safety:
Maintain a neat, clean, and safe patient care environment.
Adhere to all clinic protocols, including those for infection control and safety.
Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations, including HIPAA.
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Graduation from a Medical Assistant training program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or a formal United States Armed Forces medical services training program.
Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
A national Medical Assistant certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT) is often strongly preferred or required within a specific timeframe.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably within the last three years.
Experience in an orthopedic or surgical setting is a plus.
Immunization Requirements:
Candidates must be current on or willing to obtain required immunizations, including Hepatitis B (series and titer), Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Tuberculosis (TB) test, Seasonal Influenza, and COVID-19 vaccine (if applicable).
Skills:
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems (e.g., MHS GENESIS).
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
