A well-established custom millwork company with over 45 years of experience is seeking an experienced Millwork Estimator to join our team. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality craftsmanship and precision in every project, from concept to completion.
Job Summary:
The Journeyman Installer at is responsible for the professional installation of custom commercial millwork, cabinetry, and architectural woodwork. This role requires precision, craftsmanship, and experience in working with various materials to ensure high-quality installations that meet project specifications. The Journeyman Installer works closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to complete installations on schedule while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Lead and oversee the work of apprentices and entry-level installers on-site
• Assign daily tasks and ensure team members understand project expectations and priorities
• Ensure all installations follow shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards
• Provide on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced team members
• Monitor job site safety and ensure compliance with company protocols and OSHA standards
• Coordinate with the Project Manager or Field Supervisor regarding scheduling, job progress, and material needs
• Conduct informal performance observations and provide feedback to supervisors or HR when necessary
• Represents the Company professionally when communicating with clients, contractors, and other trades
• Assist in tracking and reporting installation progress, punch list items, and site issues
• Support team morale and promote a respectful, collaborative job site environment
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Install custom millwork, cabinetry, doors, panels, molding, and trim according to blueprints and shop drawings.
• Ensure all millwork is aligned, level, plumb, and securely fastened to meet project specifications.
• Use various hand and power tools, including routers, saws, drills, levels, and fastening systems, for precision cutting and fitting.
• Conduct on-site adjustments and modifications to accommodate field conditions or unforeseen challenges.
• Apply caulking, sealants, and adhesives where necessary for a finished appearance and durability.
• Perform fine finishing, sanding, and touch-ups on installed millwork as needed.
• Blueprint & Specification Compliance:
• Read and interpret architectural plans, shop drawings, and cut sheets to ensure correct installations.
• Verify dimensions and measurements before and during installation to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure all work complies with building codes, ADA requirements, fire ratings, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to ensure seamless workflow and resolve installation issues.
• Communicate material shortages, damaged items, or discrepancies to supervisors promptly.
• Coordinate deliveries and staging of millwork components to maintain an organized and efficient work area.
• Assist in pre-installation meetings to understand site conditions, schedules, and client expectations.
• Inspect millwork and installation areas for potential issues or defects before and during installation.
• Identify and resolve gaps, misalignments, or improper fittings to maintain a polished finish.
• Recommend field modifications to enhance durability, functionality, or aesthetics.
• Perform final walkthroughs and punch list corrections to ensure a high standard of workmanship.
• Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines to maintain a secure work environment.
• Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and harnesses.
• Secure and barricade work areas to prevent accidents or disruptions to other trades.
• Operate tools and equipment safely, following manufacturer instructions and company policies.
• Operate and maintain carpentry tools, power tools, and fastening systems.
• Perform routine maintenance on tools, ladders, lifts, and workstations.
• Ensure that company vehicles, equipment, and installation sites are clean and well-organized.
• Represent Company in a professional and courteous manner at all job sites.
• Address client or contractor questions and concerns regarding installation quality and timelines.
• Provide guidance to apprentices or less experienced team members on best practices and techniques.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of millwork installation techniques, joinery, and cabinetry construction.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Experience using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and finishing tools.
• Knowledge of fasteners, adhesives, and materials used in millwork installation.
• Ability to troubleshoot and adjust installations to accommodate unforeseen site conditions.
• Strong attention to detail, precision, and craftsmanship.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to work alongside project managers, general contractors, and other trades.
• Ability to take direction and provide professional communication on job sites.
• Strong time management skills to complete installations on schedule.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a carpentry, millwork, or construction apprenticeship program preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in millwork, cabinetry, or commercial woodworking installation.
• Experience working on commercial construction sites is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing: Must be able to move throughout job sites, often on uneven or unfinished surfaces, and climb ladders or scaffolding as needed.
• Lifting and carrying materials: Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to50–75 poundsunassisted (e.g., doors, trim, tools, hardware).
• Repetitive motion: Requires frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to operate hand tools, power tools, and fasteners.
• Manual dexterity and precision: Ability to perform fine measurements, alignments, and installations with accuracy using tools such as levels, tape measures, and calipers.
• Vision and hearing: Must have adequate vision (with or without correction) to read plans, follow layouts, and inspect finishes. Must be able to hear instructions and safety signals in a potentially noisy environment.
• Working overhead and in confined spaces: May involve reaching, stooping, kneeling, twisting, or crawling in tight or awkward spaces.
• Tolerant of various environmental conditions: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor construction sites, which may include exposure to dust, noise, varying weather conditions, and temperatures.
• Driving and travel: Requires operating company vehicles and traveling to various job sites within the region. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record will be required.
• Ability to work in various environments, including active construction sites, varying temperatures, and dusty conditions.
