Role Summary:

As the Modernization Database Architect, (Mainframe to cloud Data Architect) you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the migration of data from legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud-based platforms. This role involves working as part of a Project Architecture team, Center of Excellence, and collaborating with client DBAs to understand their current data structures. Additionally, you will create new data models and develop the necessary extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes to ensure a seamless transition.

What You Will Do:

• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for mainframe database migration and modernization process.
• Design and implement database structures and mainframe unload and load programs for cloud databases, including tables, indexes, constraints, and relationships.
• Learn and apply the technical architecture of Ensono's mainframe modernization tools (Universal Data Converter) using ability in various source and target databases.
• Convert mainframe databases and data models to modern database architectures.
• Collaborate with application architects and other database architects to customize and change data models, databases, and code, focusing on database migration.
• Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models for databases modernization.
• Document data requirements and relationships (data modeling) and create efficient database structures (database design).

What You Will Need:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in data modeling and database design, particularly with IBM Mainframe DB2 and Azure SQL.
• Strong understanding of data modeling principles and database design best practices.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail plus strong communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with mainframe to cloud data migration projects.
• Knowledge of Azure cloud services and tools.

• 9-12 years of combined related experience with:
  • 3-4 years of Mainframe database experience - VSAM, DB2 etc.
  • 3-4 years of full stack development. Linux, Windows
  • 3-4 years of programming in a combination of COBOL, Java and C#

• Ability to self-learn new languages and legacy database management systems.

Experience That Will Set You Apart:

• Master's degree in computer science or information science/technology
• Experience with Legacy Mainframe databases such as IMS, IDMS, Datacom or Adabas
