HELIX WATER DISTRICT, La Mesa, CA (located in East San Diego County) is seeking an experienced Network Support Specialist to join the district's Information Services department. The Network Support Specialist serves as the district's personal computer-support staff; installs, administers, and maintains PC hardware and software and helps manage the operating stability, security, reliability, and efficiency of general network infrastructure. Manages the district's mobile device infrastructure and devices via mobile device management and coordinates the district's security awareness training program. Assists with information services related to onboarding and offboarding tasks for Helix staff, manages the district's voice system and audio-visual systems and performs related duties as assigned. The Network Support Specialist may work after normal working hours and occasionally on weekends or after-hours for system emergencies as situations arise.
Overview of Responsibilities
Performs systems support for the district's PC based infrastructure, including installing, maintaining, and enhancing computer functionality, installing operating systems and application software, ensures network connectivity, system security and maintains comprehensive system documentation.
Assists with installation, configuration, integration, upgrades, and to network devices, applications and servers.
Assists in the monitoring and administration of network performance to achieve established service levels using applicable software, tools and utilities and in troubleshooting and resolving network problems.
Educates and assists end-users in using computer workstations and networked systems, including desktop and cloud-based applications.
Participates in the evaluation, recommendation, selection and purchase of hardware and software and the development of district standards for hardware and software; develops short- and long-range plans for the enhancement and migration of PC based infrastructure. Follows up on hardware and software orders and vendor technician support calls.
Works closely with other areas of the district to evaluate and recommend software and hardware purchases; installs and relocates hardware as necessary.
Ensures the district complies with computer software licensing agreements and hardware registration requirements; provides backup support to other information services staff in performing their duties.
Procures and manages the district's mobile infrastructure and closely monitors usage and monthly service charges as it relates to the individual cell phone carriers.
Coordinates the district's security awareness training practice and schedules phishing, smishing and vishing campaigns on a regular basis to ensure staff is educated.
Participates in the maintenance of the district's end point protection solution by monitoring and performing required updates to ensure PC infrastructure is sufficiently protected from cyber security threats such as malware and ransomware.
Assists in the maintenance and administration of the district's helpdesk system; resolves assigned tickets, generates reports and contributes content to the helpdesk knowledgebase.
Assist in the onboarding and offboarding of employees, adding and removing user accounts, disabling accounts, managing email distribution lists and maintaining security groups.
Assist with the maintenance and administration of the district's VOIP phone system, modifying schedules, assigning extensions, replacing phones and responding to reporting requests.
Qualifications
Training and experience substantially equivalent to an associate degree with a major in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field and three years of progressively responsible experience supporting networked devices and services, PC desktop workstations, and applications in a TCP/IP LAN/WAN environment.
A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy.
