Night Deputy City Editor

Summary:
The Daily Camera and Longmont Times-Call newspapers in Boulder County, Colo., are looking for an experienced journalist to serve as an Night Deputy City Editor, working weeknights in our Boulder newsroom editing daily and longer-term stories for the newspapers' websites and print editions.
What you will do:
The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor, who is a skilled wordsmith and master of AP style, who has a sharp eye for detail, and who can work closely with our reporting staff to improve both their storytelling and reporting. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can remain calm and collected - and make smart decisions - in high-stress, deadline situations.
The Night Deputy City Editor will be responsible for helping to coordinate our news coverage of Boulder County, as well as maintaining and updating the websites of the Camera, Times-Call, and their sister newspapers. Other duties will be assigned as necessary. Candidates should have experience working with web content-management systems and be well-versed in social media and search-engine optimization.
What you will bring:

• Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
• The preferred candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
• Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
• Proven ability to coach reporters through breaking news online quickly
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
• Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
• Beats production deadlines
• Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
• Experiments with new digital tools and platforms

Additional information:

• Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
• Must live in area or be ready and willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)

The annual salary range is $50,000.00-$55,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
