TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of position: 12 months per year
Hours: 7:00 AM-3:00 PM
SUMMARY
Performs complex nursing work providing for the care and treatment of patients and clients, working with families, providers, and others; and facilitating effective communication and working relationships. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising nursing activities.
• Prepares and maintains patient records and program reports.
• Provides specialized nursing services for students.
• Participates in planning, developing, implementing, interpreting, and monitoring Health Services program operations, policies, and procedures.
• Assists in developing work procedures and performance standards.
• Reviews medical records and patient assessments to determine compliance with policies and procedures, correctness of assessments, and/or quality of services.
• May detect, record, investigate, and report infections and communicable diseases and take corrective action as appropriate.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Plans/supervises required school health screenings, immunizations compliance and special programs.
• Rotates on call for evenings, nights and weekends with Director and fellow Nurse Liaison.
• Assist in evaluating nursing services through evaluation reports for designated staff.
• Develops and implements “Individual Healthcare Plans”.
• Cooperates with other agency departments in obtaining OHIs, crediting IEP, updating progress of IEPs, and establishing HRS eligibility.
• Liaises between the Psychiatric Clinic, medical clinic, parents and/or adult students, other agency departments, and vendors regarding, but not limited to, obtaining orders from physicians, medication consents from parents/adult students, prescriptions, prior authorizations, etc.
• Provides support when key personnel are absent.
• May maintain current training and records for Concussion Oversight Team, acting as liaison between providers, students, families, and agency departments,
• Collaborates with others to update all health – related forms for summer school, TSD Admissions, and/or Health Center use, each year.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to earn Vision, Scoliosis/ANTES certification.
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
• BSN in nursing or related field.
• Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level must participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until achieving the required sign language proficiency level.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficient signed communications skills.
• Current Vision, scoliosis/ANTES certification
• Professional experience as a nurse in a residential and/or school setting.
• Computer skills to include word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets.
• Previous experience working with individuals who are deaf or have disabilities.
• Psychiatric experience.
• Pediatric experience.
• Knowledge of deaf culture.
