• DEPT OF PARKS & RECREATION Posted On:10/03/2025 • Full-Time Location NYC-ALL BOROS • Exam May Be Required Department CW SHOPS Salary Range: $69.44 – $69.44 Job Description NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land 14 percent of New York City including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach to Central Park, community gardens and ice rinks. We seek qualified Oilers for 5 months (temporary positions) to help us maintain essential equipment for our operations. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Under direct supervision is responsible for the lubrication of power plant, pumping and/or construction equipment; performs related work. • Lubricate and clean pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operating equipment. • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of this equipment. May dismantle and/or assemble equipment associated with the heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air conditioning or mechanical systems and make operational. • Read meters, gauges, and other controls of operating equipment. • Keep logs and requisition parts as required. Maintains inventory. • Operate lubricant filtering and purifying equipment. • May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties. LICENSE REQUIREMENT For appointment to certain positions, possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment. Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $101.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to an $101.25 background check fee. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment; or 2. One and one-half years of experience as described in “1" above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program; or 3. One year of experience as described in “1" above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology. Preferred Skills 1. At least one year of verifiable, full-time experience in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. 2. A valid Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certificate (EPA 608 Certificate) issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. 3. New York State 7G Pesticide Applicator or Technician’s certificate issued by NYSDEC. 4. Strong organizational, communication, administrative, writing and presentation skills. 5. Ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful and creative solutions. 6.
