Job Summary
The Packaging Operator is responsible for manual and automated packaging and labeling of skeleton kits, transport tubes, penetrable caps, lysing tubes, swabs, and other kit components in accordance with production schedules and cGMP guidelines. The role requires operating and maintaining packaging equipment, performing accurate documentation, and ensuring high-quality production output in a safe and organized environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform manual and semi-automated labeling of tubes, kits, and components according to approved instructions.
• Assemble kits manually, including bagging, racking, filling, and capping of lysing tubes and other ancillaries.
• Rotate between various packaging and filling operations as assigned.
• Complete ERP system transactions for process orders.
• Set up, operate, maintain, and clean packaging equipment (e.g., conveyors, inkjet coders, scanners, box erectors, taping and labeling machines).
• Stage correct packaging materials based on pick lists and verify quantities.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas in line with 6S standards, including waste disposal and proper storage.
• Keep accurate records, including device history, logbooks, and training documentation.
• Follow safety protocols, including wearing protective footwear and other PPE as required.
• Operate pallet jacks (manual required, electric preferred).
• Assist in training new and temporary employees.
• Participate in quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Transfer materials between warehouse and production areas.
• Perform line clearance and labeling procedures.
• Work overtime as needed to meet production schedules.
Physical Requirements
• Stand, walk, bend, and reach regularly.
• Lift and move products up to 40 lbs; occasionally heavier using pallet jacks or carts.
• Visual inspection of products for quality compliance, including some color identification.
• Work around moving mechanical parts, vibration, and moderate noise.
• Wear safety shoes with impact/compression protection.
• Ability to walk for extended periods.
Qualifications
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
• 0–1 year of related manufacturing or assembly experience.
• Experience with packaging in a cGMP or ISO 13485 regulated environment preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Proficiency with basic hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches).
• Basic math and recordkeeping skills.
• Knowledge of cGMP requirements.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, assembly drawings, and SOPs.
• Detail-oriented and quality-focused.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills; ERP system experience preferred.
• Ability to operate manual pallet jacks (electric pallet jack experience is a plus).
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
