AFAR is the award-winning travel media brand that makes a positive impact on the world through high-quality storytelling that inspires, empowers, and enriches travelers who care. Our digital audience has tripled in size over the past few years and our newsletters reach over 750,000 readers. We are looking for a Paid Marketing Specialist to support our reach and awareness of various branded campaigns. Successful candidates will be proactive and detailed with strong creative and analytical skills. This role will be part of AFAR’s Audience Development team with a dotted line to our marketing department and is a great opportunity to refine and develop paid media strategy skills for a fast-growing travel media brand.


Primary Responsibilities:

Lead day-to-day paid media strategy efforts in support of advertiser and brand awareness goals.

Launch and maintain paid media campaigns for key site sections and video including set up, choosing creative images, writing/editing ad copy, and optimizing campaign performance. 

Working with Branded Content Lead, analyze campaign reporting to determine optimization opportunities on existing campaigns and develop new buying strategies to test.

Collaborate, share results, and brainstorm with other team members to help shape future campaign strategy.

Using defined budgets for each campaign, optimize all paid efforts to meet predetermined KPI goals, inclusive of page views and click-through rates.

Working with the Associate Director of Audience Development and marketing stakeholders, become a leader at cultivating meaningful brand engagement across all campaigns.

Ensuring that our ad partners are extremely satisfied with the results of their campaigns.

Tracking performance carefully and developing methods to improve our paid traffic and engagement efforts.

Being detail-oriented and highly focused on the task at hand, and not being afraid to ask questions or welcome feedback.

Bringing fresh and exciting ideas forward that challenge conventional thinking.


The right candidate will:

Have 2-3 years of experience in paid media optimization

Be adept at organizing and interpreting data to extract trends and results, and taking action based on that intel

Be extremely detail-oriented, organized, and collaborativePossess strong written and communication skills

Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Be based in the U.S. and be available for in-person meetings 3-5 times per year, primarily in New York City

Have a working knowledge of Facebook Business Manager, Google Analytics, Excel, and Google Sheets.

Familiarity with YouTube Analytics and paid campaigns, Nativo, Outbrain or Taboola is a plus

Preferably have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Business, or equivalent experience
