Job Summary Exceptional Project Management Opportunity County of San Diego-Department of Parks and Recreation PARK PROJECT MANAGER - Design & Construction Interviews will start the week of September 2, 2025. Job offers for selected candidates will be made the week of September 15, 2025. Future Salary Increases: ** June 2026 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment) ** June 2027 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3% Across-the- Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment)The County of San Diego seeks a highly motivated and results-oriented Park Project Managers to join the award-winning Parks & Recreation Department. The Park Project Managers will be a part of the Development Team that designs and constructs public spaces for county residents to build community, play, and experience the outdoors. Working in a multi-disciplinary setting with other team members, county departments and consultants, the ideal candidate will champion their portfolio and problem-solve to advance community-prioritized projects. Incumbents will demonstrate a collaborative approach to project management and strong capacity to effectively listen and balance a variety of viewpoints and needs in a project. Park Project Managers perform but are not limited to the following duties and responsibilities: • Under general supervision, plan, coordinate and direct the implementation of design and construction of park capital projects and major maintenance improvements • Create in-house design solutions, vignettes and site analysis for smaller projects • Review designs with stakeholders to ensure the project meets all DPR Parks’ requirements and communicate pro-actively while demonstrating organizational and political acumen • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of projects from inception to construction close-out, working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary project team to ensure timely completion of work • Review consultant submissions for completeness and compliance with agency goals such as high-quality design, sustainability and durability. Coordinate other professional reviews such as architectural design and engineering trades • Ensure all necessary regulatory county, state and federal agency approvals are received prior to issuance of bid and assemble project bid documents, administer public bid/quote process and recommend action on construction or maintenance contracts • Monitor contract compliance with prevailing wage laws, California and local building codes, specifications, OSHA and ADA requirements and other federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations • Monitor progress of construction reviewing and approving shop drawings, responding to requests for information, and other construction related design tasks • Conduct occasional site inspections for quality assurance and solve field condition issues in an efficient manner • Review and approve consultant and contractor payment requests • Coordinate with agency budget and accounting units to ensure efficient contract registration and paymentsDepartment of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Parks and Recreation enhance the quality of life for county residents and visitors of all ages. Ideal Candidate Profile • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple development projects, tasks and priorities in a wide variety of disciplines to achieve desired goals • Possesses strong design, construction management and inspection skills which are highly desirable • Possesses knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to construction management • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and an ability to respond orally and in writing to stakeholders and public inquiriesWork Schedule The selected candidate or candidates for Park Project Manager may have a hybrid schedule consisting of a blend of working remotely via teleworking; and working on site at the Department of Parks and Recreation in the office or in the field. Working Conditions The work environment of a Park Project Manager is divided between the office and the field, such as remote work locations, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions; travel may be required within the county region on a frequent basis and outside of the county region on an occasional basis. Exposure to computer screens. Subject to occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work. May interact with persons who are uncooperative, argumentative, or upset. Minimum Qualifications • A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, geology, urban planning, parks or recreation administration, environmental planning, public/business administration, business management, or a closely related field, AND, two (2) years of professional level project management experience performing capital projects planning, project coordination/management, or urban/environment/resource planning activities; OR; • Any combination of education and experience described above which equals six (6) years.Note:A master's or doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, geology, urban planning, parks or recreation administration, environmental planning, public/business administration, business management, or a closely related field may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience listed above.
