The San Diego Convention Center is located on sparkling San Diego Bay in the heart of a vibrant downtown. Abundant, flexible space and five-star service make the San Diego Convention Center the meeting planner's choice for hosting major conventions, trade shows, meetings and special events. The San Diego Convention Center has 2.6 million sq. ft. to include 72 meeting/banquet rooms, eight exhibit halls, two ballrooms and a special events area - the Sails Pavilion, 138-seat capacity onsite restaurant and 36-seat bar, 8 concession stands in exhibit halls, 2 full-service kitchens, portable specialty services and 3 Starbucks lobby operations. Some of the many types of events offered at the San Diego Convention Center include the annual Comic Con and ESRI shows, full service plated dinners and buffet & reception events. We are currently seeking a Pastry Chef at the San Diego Convention Center . Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Participate as part of Culinary Leadership Team to supervise a culinary department for the preparation of foods served to the customers in a consistent and timely manner. • Supervise the daily set-up of the department's stations; Ensure work areas are stocked accordingly. • Maintain product consistency by continuous inspection and tasting of seasonings, portions and appearance of food. • Ensure consistent adherence to Sodexo Live! standards for food quality, • Train kitchen staff to strengthen the team's culinary skills and to maintain overall kitchen safety. Job Requirements: • Minimum of 2 years in a food preparation position. • Ability to promote and participate in a team environment. • Ability to understand written and oral direction and to communicate same with others. Preferred: • Degree from a postsecondary culinary arts training program. • ACF Professional Certification. Other requirements: • Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays. • Must be able to work in extremes of cold to heat. • Must be able to exert well-paced mobility to maneuver quickly among different areas of the facility.
