People Operations Manager
Counterpart is a management liability insurance platform for the 21st century workplace. As an early member of the team, you will help drive our efforts in building a diverse, world-class team and ensuring Counterpart is a great place to work. This starts with identifying and recruiting top talent to help us grow our team. You will manage our pipeline on key roles and help identify and manage efficiencies in our recruiting process to drive hiring cycles down. You will work closely with our Head of People, Ali Fiedler, to continue to build our systems, processes and culture that help keep our team happy, engaged supported in their career growth here at Counterpart.
YOU WILL:
- Manage the end-to-end recruiting process to identify and recruit diverse talent for key roles.
- Maintain our applicant tracking system (Greenhouse) including pipeline management, candidate feedback, communication and reporting.
- Manage the administration of our HRIS platform (Rippling) to support our employees from Day One. This includes managing payroll, benefits, PTO, HR compliance and managing relationships with external vendors such as our PEO, 401k administrator and candidate sourcing tools.Â
- Be the owner of new hire onboarding including all communication, coordination and provisioning of tooling, software and set up in our HR system.
- Organize and coordinate our team events including bi-annual team onsites.
- Refine our systems and processes that support our team including our bi-annual performance reviews, internal policies/documentation, perks/benefits and more.Â
- Be a partner to the team. Act as a sounding board to help understand what’s working and what needs to change through regular 1:1s, onboarding/exit interviews, engagement & pulse surveys and more.
YOU HAVE:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3+ years of HR and/or recruiting experience or equivalent experience
- Experience with managing full recruiting cycle including candidate sourcing, interviews and offer negotiating.
- Exceptional attention to detail and project management skills.
- Ability to operate within a team and/or independently while demonstrating versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
- Confident presenting to key internal and external stakeholders.Â
- Experience in insurance, fintech, regulated categories or other high growth environments.
- Exposure to and passion for early-stage startups and/or high growth environments.

- Tanner Hackett, CEO & Founder: Having founded two other major startups, including Button and Lazada, Tanner now spends his time focused on mental health through his philanthropy, Open Minded.org, in addition to reading, surfing, yoga, and enjoying the outdoors.Â
- Ali Penny Fiedler, Head of People. Ali joined Counterpart as Head of People following a 13 + year stint at Yext, most recently as VP of Recruiting Programs. Her experience is rooted in building and scaling teams with the best people. She’s previously built and led teams in Sales, Client Support, Operations, Client Success and most recently designed and managed a Rotational Program.
- Emad ElShawa, VP of Growth: As the former Chief of Staff and early team member at Fundbox- Emad led all Business Operations functions and helped scale the company to over $160M in annual recurring revenue. A small business owner himself, Emad knows the inefficiencies that plague the small business economy first hand and has dedicated his career to building products and businesses to help address them.Â
- Mike Levins, Head of Insurance: Mike previously was the Head of Broker Relations and US MGA Operations at Hiscox. Mike oversaw the Midwest region with ~20 underwriters offering 13 different product lines, the primary lines being management liability, professional liability, and cyber/technology. His extensive insurance career has afforded Mike strong relationships across hundreds of retail and wholesale brokers. Mike received his BS from Marquette University and MBA from Benedictine University.
- Tobias Schuler, Head of Data & Analytics: Tobias was previously the Head of Data and Analytics at Digital Partners, a Munich Re company. Tobias led a team that built out data integrations, business intelligence and advanced analytics across all insurtech partners spanning various P&C lines of businesses. Tobias is also a FCAS and has built systems to enable leading class insights for underwriting, actuarial, claims and finance experts while focusing on democratizing data. He enjoys traveling internationally and spending time with his 2 young daughters.
- Chris Shafer, Special Projects: Chris is a published scientific author, having studied the neural correlates of gratitude at the lauded Brain and Creativity Institute. He has since helped to launch numerous businesses in which he held a variety of critical roles from product management to business operations to strategic partnerships. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California.
