SUMMARY

Working as a member of the Real Estate Investments team, the Associate will be involved in all aspects of private markets investments including due diligence, transaction execution, and investment monitoring. The individual in this role will also provide direct support for one of the firm’s premier clients and will spend a majority of time on-site with the client in Austin, Texas.


 RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual will be involved in the following critical activities:

  • Work on-site with the client to manage and invest a multi-billion dollar private markets investment program with exposure to private equity, real estate, energy, natural resources, and infrastructure.
  • Administer the client’s deal flow management, portfolio monitoring, investment due diligence, deal execution, and client reporting activities.
  • Serve as liaison between the client and GCM Grosvenor on a day-to-day basis to ensure the timely delivery of information to key stakehol ders and to facilitate increased connectivity between both organizations.
  • Act as a central point of contact for fund managers seeking to obtain information about the client’s investment program and facilitate further evaluation with appropriate members of the investment team.
  • Execute due diligence on investment opportunities reviewed on behalf of the client, prepare investment memoranda, and present investment recommendations and due diligence findings to internal committees.
  • Partner with legal counsel to review deal terms, negotiate and execute investment transactions.
  • Offer insights and ideas regarding potential investments, creative transaction structures and deal terms that help lead to successful transactions.
  • Review partnership agreements and other documents associated with potential investments to identify potential issues and negotiate appropriate rights.
  • Coordinate all aspects of transaction execution and deal closing process with legal advisors, sponsors and internal finance team.
  • Monitor and report on underlying investment/portfolio performance and draft client communications, including periodic updates on underlying investment/portfolio performance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal experience and critical competencies for the role include the following:

  • Bachelors degree. CFA, MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
  • 4 - 6 years of relevant work experience such investment banking, investment consulting, transaction advisory, or valuation services. 
  • Prior private markets investment / transaction experience required. Knowledge of middle market fund managers is a plus.
  • Strong quantitative skills, analytical ability, and emotional intelligence.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, research and other applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate opinions and write clear, concise memoranda on investment opportunities.
  • Highly motivated, ambitious and industrious investment professional with exceptional organizational skills, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic, professional demeanor and high degree of integrity.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a large diverse team and to work both independently and as a productive member of teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed to support the Firm’s investment and business development activities.
  • Ability to balance multiple concurrent projects and to prioritize workload and shift attention among changing tasks and priorities.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment and desire to work in dynamic, entrepreneurial organization.
  • NOTE: Ability to spend the first 2 - 3 months in an immersive training program in our New York City office.
