Job Roles • Consult with physicians in filling prescriptions for patients being treated. • Consult with physicians and patients about appropriate over-the-counter medications for common ailments. • Review physician orders and prepare medications accordingly. • Monitor patients’ drug therapies. Assist in managing the delivery of a complex set of medications. • Ensure medications, and compound pharmaceuticals are properly dispensed. • Instruct patients on how and when to take prescribed medicine to include information on side effects that may be experienced from taking the medication. • Manage side effects and reactions related to drug interactions for patients taking multiple medications. • May provide advice on healthy topics, i.e. diet, exercise, and managing the symptoms of living life. • Ensure all federal and state drug laws are followed, to include maintaining records of all controlled substances and informing management of any changes that may be needed for compliance. • Perform other duties as assigned. Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm, D) required. • Current and active license issued by the State of California required. Experience/Specialized skills (including Language) • Demonstrated experience functioning as a Pharmacist. • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups. • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. • Knowledge of community-based/clinic-based patient care. • Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, etc.).
