Position Summary:
The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) – Long-Term Care is a licensed pharmacist responsible for overseeing all aspects of pharmacy operations within a closed-door long-term care (LTC) setting. This role provides clinical leadership, ensures compliance with state and federal regulations (CMS, DEA, Board of Pharmacy), and directs daily workflow across pharmacy staff, technicians, and delivery teams. The PIC plays a key role in maintaining accurate and timely medication dispensing, fostering strong relationships with nursing facilities, and implementing technology and process improvements. This position requires a balance of operational efficiency, regulatory expertise, and strategic leadership to support the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical care to residents of long-term care facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
· Dispense all types of prescription medications, including oral, topical, parenteral, and compounded agent
· Evaluate prescriptions for appropriate dosage, administration, interactions, and regulatory compliance
· Provide clinical guidance to staff, nurses, and responsible parties on drug-related inquiries and interventions
· Supervise pharmacists, technicians, and delivery personnel to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant pharmacy services
· Oversee medication packaging, labeling, data entry, and customer service processes
· Ensure accurate and timely delivery of medications and supplies, including emergency kits and StatSafe stock
· Collaborate with long-term care facilities to ensure regulatory compliance and clinical alignment (CMS, DEA, state board)
· Support the VP of Pharmacy Operations on special projects, initiatives, and audits
· Address business office concerns related to billing, documentation, and operational workflows
· Manage inventory, including scheduled counts, expiration tracking, and DEA-compliant CII handling
· Coordinate pharmacist and technician schedules; ensure adequate staffing and HR communication
· Lead staff development through performance evaluations, in-service training, and ongoing education
· Maintain current licensing, complete required credentialing forms, and prepare for inspections and audits
· Uphold cleanliness, equipment functionality, and overall pharmacy standards
· Serve as secondary on-call contact and participate in occasional overnight travel
Qualifications:
· Bachelor or Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD)
· Active Texas Registered Pharmacist license
· Experience witheMAR systems, cycle fills, med carts, and facility-specific pharmacy workflows
· Familiarity withconsultant pharmacist collaborationand interdisciplinary communication
· Comfort managing relationships withnursing home administrators, DONs, and medical directors
·Demonstrated leadership in ahigh-volume, non-patient-facing environment
· In-depth understanding ofCMS, DEA, and Texas State Board regulationsrelated to LTC and nursing facilities
· Excellent organizational, communication, and staff management skills
· Flexibility for on-call rotation and occasional overnight travel
Experience:
· Proficiency or familiarity with long-term care pharmacy technology platforms such asPrimeCare,DocuTrack,TCGRx,andParataare highly preferred.
· Prior experience in along-term care or closed-door pharmacy environment(required or strongly preferred)
· 2–5+ years of pharmacist experience preferred

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
