Job Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Serves patients by preparing medications; giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team; monitoring patient drug therapies. JOB DUTIES • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities. • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions. • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections. • Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals, counseling patients on drug therapies. • Develops staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs, training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals. • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions. • Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols. • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. • Maintains current knowledge of USP 797/800 and abides by all requirements • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Compounding knowledge for non-sterile products is also necessary. PHYSICAL DEMANDS • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position. Hours worked will be within the hours of 8am-7pm Monday through Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays. TRAVEL Travel is not required for this position. Any travel that does occur will reimburse you for any gas mileage incurred. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • PharmD • 1+ years of related experience.
