Job Responsibilities:Deliver treatment procedures as directed by the supervising physical therapist, including patient preparation, education, and use of rehabilitation equipment; may administer standardized tests under supervision.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting treatment progress and compliance with reimbursement and regulatory standards.
Communicate patient condition changes to the physical therapist for possible treatment adjustments or further evaluation.
Submit timely and accurate billing according to UHS policies.
Assist with discharge planning, patient/family education, and coordinate postâdischarge referrals and durable medical equipment as needed.
Collaborate with physical therapists, other healthcare professionals, patients, and families to support comprehensive care and participate in care conferences.
Provide guidance to departmental aides, volunteers, and students; contribute to performance improvement and department initiatives.
Adhere to emergency protocols, ethical standards (APTA Code of Ethics), infection control, and facility cleanliness.
Participate in ongoing education, clinical inâservices, and maintain required licensure and certifications.
Meet individual and departmental productivity goals while fostering a professional and supportive environment.
Minimum Required:
Graduate of an approved Physical Therapist Assistant program or equivalent with Associate's of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant
Licensed or licenseâeligible by NY state as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
CPR certification within the first three months of employment.
Preferred:
A combination of up to two years of education, training and clinical experience in an outpatient setting is preferred.
Work Environment
- Material Handling: Occasionally applies various PT/OT Modalities. Occasionally lifting from floor to waist 21â50lbs; lifting 11â20lbs. from waist to shoulder; lifting 0â10 lbs. overhead. Occasionally carrying, pushing, and pulling 21â50 lbs.
- Positional Tolerance: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Constant standing, and occasional sitting and walking. Frequently reaching forward, occasional forward bending, stooping, squatting crouching, and rarely kneels, crawls, climbs stairs or ladders.
- This position occasionally performs fine motor skills, rarely reaches above shoulder height, twists at the hips, requires balance, grasps heavy items and performs a pinching activity.
- Constantly requires hearing and frequently requires talking. Frequently requires far acuity;
- ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:All work is performed indoors a department which consists of several clinical rooms and offices or an inpatient hospital room. Frequently requires working in close quarters with other employees and patients. Environment is air conditioned as well as heated. Work may be performed in patient rooms throughout the hospitals or nursing facility, at an offsite location, or in the patient's home.
- PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: As needed, gloves, mask, gown, and other personal protective equipment, as per blood and body fluid and isolation precautions. Offâsite locations may require safety goggles, ear plugs, hard hat, steelâtoed shoes, or other personal protective equipment required by the offâsite location.
