The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge to work safely around dangerous chemicals, chemically strip metal finishes from items made from a variety of base materials, prepare and plate items made from different base materials based on the technical specification provided by the customer with the following primary processes: Electroless Nickel, Electroplating Nickel and Electroplating Gold. Plater-3 personnel must be able to calculate amperage per square foot requirements for electro-plating, understand and communicate to maskers the appropriate wire racking requirements to attain proper plating results, inspect and trouble shoot plating issues, be able to determine and maintain the proper chemical levels of processing tanks that are used for stripping, preparation and plating; this includes emptying tanks, making up new tanks, adding chemicals to tanks, operating and maintaining filtration systems and performing appropriate tank cleaning techniques.
Primary Job Functions:
Work safely around hazardous chemicals, such as hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and cyanide containing chemical solutions using appropriate safety personal protective equipment. Identifies safety issues and reports to management or Safety Officer.
Plater-3 personnel must be able to read work orders/travelers for the plating work instructions and document the plating process values used in the plating process.
The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skill to operate rectifiers, plating thickness measuring equipment such as an XRF, amps-volts-resistivity meters, amp-hour meters, digital handheld clamp meters, digital micrometers, digital calipers, pH meters, pH indicator papers, chemical and water transfer pumps and hoses, thermometers, digital and analog TDS and Meg Ohm – Cm DI water measuring instruments, and hydrometers for measuring Specific Gravity and Baume.
The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skill to perform Electroless Nickel Plating and Electrolytic Bright Nickel and Gold Plating.
