Nurse Practitioner β Pre-Operative Medicine

Adventist Health Portland is actively seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Pre-Operative Medicine Clinic. This is a unique opportunity to support patients through comprehensive perioperative evaluation and medical optimization in collaboration with our surgical and anesthesia teams.
Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will conduct thorough preoperative assessments including chart review, history and physical exams, review of systems, patient education, and ordering of diagnostic testing. This role partners closely with surgery, cardiology, and anesthesia to ensure patients are clinically prepared and medically optimized for upcoming procedures.
The ideal candidate brings strong cardiology knowledge, excellent organizational and time-management skills, and sound clinical judgment. New graduate NPs with prior cardiac or surgical RN experience are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive preoperative risk assessments, including detailed histories and physical exams.
- Order and evaluate diagnostic studies, labs, and other preoperative testing.
- Function independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (surgery, cardiology, anesthesiology) to optimize patients prior to surgery.
- Provide medication management guidance, preoperative instructions, and patient education.
- Coordinate referrals to specialty services as needed based on diagnostic results.
- Communicate clinical concerns, recommendations, and optimization needs to surgical teams.
- Ensure timely and thorough documentation and coding in the EMR.
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible Nurse Practitioner
- Oregon licensed or eligible for licensure
- Must meet hospital medical staff credentialing standards
- Experience preferred; new graduates with relevant RN experience will be considered
