Job Description

Nutritionist for Preschool Kinder Mission Preschool is looking for a Preschool Chef for our Preschool in South Park, San Diego. Hours: 8 am - 4pm The hourly rate is $18-$20 per hour. Your role involves organizing, budgeting, shopping for, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks that cater to the dietary and health requirements of the children. It's essential to keep the facility safe, clean, and hygienic while following proper food handling practices, safety regulations, and childcare food guidelines for food preparation, storage, and disposal. A passion and knowledge for gardening is a plus, as our Preschool has its own garden where we grow vegetables for the children and our pet tortoises. The nutritionist supports the center’s philosophy, programs, and policies to maintain a standard of care that contributes to the Center’s reputation for excellence. We are a year-round school and are closed for all the federal holidays; eleven of those holidays are paid for. In addition, KMP is closed the day after Thanksgiving and for a Winter break, and one week in Spring and one in Summer. Kinder Mission offers a 401K; for every 30 hours worked, you earn one accrued hour for sick or personal leave, and also offers Health Insurance. Duties and Responsibilities The primary job duties and responsibilities of the nutritionist include but are not limited to the following: Preschool:Meet nutritional needs • Plan and provide nutritious meals and snacks • Plan and prepare healthy meal plans • Promote healthy eating • Accommodate for allergies, special dietary, and nutritional requirements • Prepare for next time by planning meals, that incorporate any leftovers from this week • Make meals or snacks for students using perishable food items to avoid wasting anything • Gardening: planting, harvesting, and taking care of the garden • Preparing food for pets • Laundering small items Equipment and Facilities • Maintains cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas • Develops and complies with a regular sanitization schedule for ovens, refrigerators, and other appliances and areas • Ensures a safe and healthy environment • Assesses risks and uses emergency procedures as required • Responds to facility emergencies • Responds to equipment repairs as required • Works safely around stoves and chemicals Record keeping • Maintains accurate, timely, and complete records for menus, temperatures, controls, child allergies, etc. Finance • Creates and maintains all food-related purchasing and inventory • Estimates requirements and expenses • Ensures compliance with established budget Personal and Professional Development • Conducts self professionally • Maintains professionalism • Follows policies and procedures and uses a code of ethics to guide practice • Maintains confidentiality • Maintain required professional certifications and/or registrations • Keeps up to date with legislative requirements • Maintains a work/life balance • Engage in ongoing self-assessment • Maintain physical and mental well-being • Participates in professional development • Develop and implement a professional development plan • Evaluate progress based on the professional development plan • Participate in professional workshops, courses, and ongoing learning Qualifications * Education, Qualifications, and Certifications • Experience in cooking for Preschool students • ECE Units in Child Development preferred • at least two years of experience • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate • Mandated Reporter Skills and Abilities • Time management, organizational skills • Ability to work independently • Perceptive and aware of all children in the area • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, children, and parents • Flexible to work with different age groups Personal Characteristics • Proactive, flexible, patient, professional, prompt, and reliable attendance • Patient and calm under pressure Working Conditions • The Cook works in busy environment with varying temperatures • Working around moving objects • Slippery or uneven working surfaces Physical Requirements • Lifting to 50 lbs • Able to stand for extended periods • Able to hear all sounds • Exposure to illness, noise Job Types: Full-time, Contract Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Vision insurance • Eleven Holidays paid Experience: • Cooking for Kids: 1 year (Preferred) Work Location: In person Job Types: Full-time, Contract Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Vision insurance Application Question(s): • Do you have experience in cooking for children? • Do you have knowledge about gardening and are you able to take care of one? • Are you able to drop of laundry at the nearby launderette and pick I up again, or are you open of bringing the laundry home over the weekend (getting paid extra hours)? • Our school has a makeshift kitchen, which does not include a stove, are you ok using hot plates, air fryer, small oven and an instapot? • Are you ok doing dishes, as we do not have a dishwasher?
